Toure Receives Offer from China
Tuesday, Feb. 2
Matt Law of the Guardian reported that "Toure will be offered a stunning £30million-a-year contract to move to China, following the confirmation that Pep Guardiola will become the Manchester City manager in the summer."
Toure's Agent Predicts He Will Leave
Tuesday, Feb. 2
Per an exclusive by Antony Kastrinakis in the Sun, the Ivorian's agent, Dimitry Seluk, said:
"I think Yaya will leave the club. But before leaving I hope he will win again the League and all the cups. It’s not a question of whether Pep likes him or not. It’s life, you know. Pep can call Yaya and speak to him to let him know 'I'm with you' or 'I am not with you'.
"
Guardiola sold the midfielder to City in 2010 during his time as head coach of Barcelona, with Kastrinakis noting the Spaniard replaced Toure with Sergio Busquets, who has since become a mainstay of the Blaugrana.
Kastrinakis further reported the 32-year-old's £240,000 per week contract does not expire until the summer of 2017, "meaning he will want up to £12 million if City wish to move him on"—though one might imagine those costs could be covered by whichever team potentially buys him.
Seluk also offered a thinly veiled barb at the club's technical director Txiki Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano—both of whom worked with Guardiola at the Camp Nou and likely helped pave the way for his arrival in Manchester:
"Yaya opened the door for the people who worked for Barcelona. Yaya went to a place where many changes were necessary. He was not afraid. But now everybody from Barca comes to City.
Yaya won every trophy in England without Guardiola. Will Guardiola win without Yaya?
"
Given his age and the slow but steady decline in Toure's performance level, the club would be wise to move him on in the summer anyway and cash in on him while they can.
The midfielder wasn't a natural fit in Guardiola's Barcelona side and isn't likely to slot easily into his plans at City, so expect him to depart in the summer.
