WWE Royal Rumble 2016: Battle Royal Losers Who Will Shine at WrestleMania 32

James MoffatJan 26, 2016

With WWE Royal Rumble 2016 in the rearview mirror, the WWE is officially on the Road to WrestleMania 32.

Triple H walked out of the night's main event with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Roman Reigns will be a big part of any WrestleMania storyline. As Forbes' Blake Oestriecher writes, "Triple H and The Authority vs. Reigns [is] almost assuredly going to happen and figures to be the main event of the upcoming WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view."

Reigns will first have to make it through Fastlane as the No. 1 contender, as he's booked to face Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar in a Triple Threat match to determine Triple H's opponent at WrestleMania 32, an announcement made by Stephanie McMahon at the conclusion of Raw on Monday night.

While Triple H and Reigns were the primary focus both before, during and following their WWE Royal Rumble showdown, a number of Superstars made their presence felt and will continue that momentum in Dallas, Texas.

Based on both screen time and speculation, we know the likes of Lesnar, Ambrose and Bray Wyatt will be prominently featured on the Road to WrestleMania. With that said, let's take a look at some other WWE Superstars who will shine on the biggest stage, WrestleMania 32.

AJ Styles

The Phenomenal One made his presence felt immediately in his debut at WWE Royal Rumble 2016. He received the largest pop of the night from the Orlando, Florida, crowd. After weeks of speculation, including from WWE itself, Styles did not disappoint in the Rumble match.

He followed up his impressive debut on Monday Night, taking on Chris Jericho in a superb singles match that had wrestling fans giddy with excitement for what's to come.

With Jericho advertised for WWE Fastlane, it's possible the two tangle in Cleveland, Ohio, next month, with Styles again gaining victory and building momentum heading into WrestleMania 32. With Ambrose likely not defending his Intercontinental Championship next month by virtue of being in the main event and his program with Kevin Owens seemingly at an end, Styles could very well put himself in position to challenge The Lunatic Fringe at the granddaddy of them all.

Sami Zayn

The reaction to Zayn's inclusion in Sunday night's Rumble match was second only to Styles'. A surprise entrant into this year's Royal Rumble, Zayn is no stranger to big spots. Last year, the former NXT champion took then-United States title holder John Cena to the limit on Raw. At this year's Rumble, Zayn eliminated his nemesis, Kevin Owens, the man who took the NXT Championship from him.

Before he can even consider having a WrestleMania moment, Zayn has his own Triple Threat match to deal with first: his upcoming match against Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin, where the winner will challenge Finn Balor for the NXT title. However, it's only a matter of time before Zayn becomes a full-fledged member of the WWE main roster.

He's been on the short list of potential main roster call-ups for some time. Zayn is a pure babyface who captures the attention of casual and hardcore fans alike, similar to another indie legend who took WWE by storm in recent years—Daniel Bryan, who's gone so far as to praise Zayn in interviews (h/t WrestleZone).

Putting a program together between Zayn and Owens for WrestleMania 32 would be pure gold, and it would introduce the WWE audience to its next underdog Superstar.

Titus O'Neil

Finally, let's look deep within the main roster midcard for a surprise. He might not have made a huge impact, but did you know Titus O'Neil lasted longer than Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens in Sunday's Rumble match? In fact, only 11 other Superstars spent more time in the ring than O'Neil on Sunday.

In recent weeks, WWE has given this former Prime Time Player an ever-so-slight singles push. It may be an effort to see whether O'Neil could be made into more than a tag team star. It could also be a way of rewarding a company man like O'Neil, one of WWE's most popular Superstars, thanks to the tremendous work he does in the community.

While his recent program with Stardust wasn't the stuff of legends, it did allow him to work with a veteran who knows his way around the ring. In recent months, he's been in the ring with the likes of Kevin Owens, Neville, Goldust and Tyler Breeze. O'Neil's singles push seems to be continuing onward following the Royal Rumble, which makes him a prime sleeper pick for one of WrestleMania's most recent staples.

With little momentum and no clear angle, O'Neil should make a name for himself in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The previous two winners of the event, Cesaro and Big Show, were of the same mold as O'Neil: bulging strongmen who could overpower their opponents. Such an accolade would push O'Neil up the card, and that could result in a United States or Intercontinental title shot down the line.
