Triple H's Predictable WWE Royal Rumble 2016 Win Didn't Ruin Epic Match

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 25, 2016

Sunday's Royal Rumble 2016 pay-per-view had some incredible moments, but if you looked on social media after the show was over, you probably saw a lot of people criticizing the decision to have Triple H win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Many were unhappy about how predictable the win was, but most seemed to think Triple H's win ruined the whole match.

That just isn't true.

You didn't have to like the result to enjoy the journey. Everything leading up to the finish was enjoyable, and letting the end ruin the whole thing is a great way to stay angry.

Granted, it's all a matter of opinion. If you didn't like the Rumble bout, then there's nothing anyone can say to change your mind, but if you loved it up until the final moment when Triple H won, you can't allow that to change how you felt about the rest of the match.

It's kind of like when people say the Star Wars prequel trilogy ruined the whole franchise for them. Those movies' being terrible should not change how you felt about the original trilogy. Those first three films are still awesome.

Then there's the problem with social media and the Internet in general. We all think we know what's best for the company because we know a few insider terms and keep up with backstage news.

Having your own opinion is your right, but you have to accept that others will have a different opinion than you, and sometimes those will be the people who make the decisions.

On top of that, we sometimes forget how heels and babyfaces work. Triple H is a heel. You're not supposed to be happy he won the match, and if you booed his win, WWE got the exact reaction it wanted out of you.

We live in an era where nobody ever has real heat anymore because people cheer for their favorites instead of rooting for the good guys and booing the bad guys.

Triple H is one of the few people who can garner true heat from the crowd, which puts him in a unique position to put over a babyface in a way guys like Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins can't.

Owens and Rollins have vocal followings because they are so good at what they do, but if they were really great heels, they could get you to hate them.

Some might tell you the reason they dislike Triple H is because they perceive him as a politician who will do whatever it takes to put himself over and bury his opponents, but then those same people will laud him for making NXT so great. It's a little hypocritical.

Nobody ever considers the possibility that Triple H was simply the best option to win the Royal Rumble in the long run. Just think about it for a second.

Triple H is the one guy who might be able to get the fans on Roman Reigns' side again because they want to see anyone but the COO hold the title.

It's actually a brilliant move to combat the negative reactions Reigns gets sometimes. Putting the title on the one person the Internet Wrestling Community doesn't want to hold it will get them to applaud Reigns when he finally wins it back.

Even if you don't like the outcome, you shouldn't let that ruin what was actually a great Royal Rumble for you.

We got to see the debut of AJ Styles, the main-roster return of Sami Zayn, Brock Lesnar and The Wyatt Family continue to build their feud and several deserving talents mix it up with main event stars. There was a lot to like about the match.

We also need to consider how much more attention a Triple H win would get as opposed to someone with a lot less exposure. Sure, it would have been great to see Dean Ambrose win, but his victory wouldn't have received the kind of coverage Triple H's did.

Media outlets will actually cover the story of Triple H winning the title. Those same outlets might not care if someone with less name recognition won the belt.

The thing that makes the least sense in all this is how people seem to think Triple H will be a part-time champion like Lesnar or The Rock. He is at the show every week. Just because he won't wrestle at every show doesn't mean he won't be heavily involved in storylines.

The Game has done more for the wrestling business in and out of the ring than just about anyone in the company. If this is his final reign as champion, he deserves one more WrestleMania moment, and this one will probably see him put someone over.

Instead of being an armchair booker, try sitting back and seeing where this journey takes us. You might find yourself enjoying the ride a bit more if you don't nitpick every little thing and just let the story play out how it's supposed to.
