Sunday Recap

Villarreal's French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (topR) hits Deportivo La Coruna's defender Alejandro Arribas (2ndR) past Villarreal's midfielder Bruno Soriano and Deportivo La Coruna's Brazilian defender Sidnei during the Spanish league football match RC D

Bruno's double strike gave Villarreal the points at Deportivo, as a penalty deep into injury time gave the visitors maximum points.

The defensive midfielder had given the Yellow Submarine the lead midway through the first half, but Luis Alberto's effort equalised the score shortly after the restart for the second half.

The game appeared destined to end in a draw as the clock ticked down to the final seconds, but a late infringement earned Villarreal a chance to steal the game, and Bruno made sure of his strike as he wrong-footed the goalkeeper.

The match between Valencia and Real Madrid promised much before kick-off, as Los Che manager Gary Neville faced former Liverpool adversary Rafael Benitez in the coaching dugout, and the contest did not disappoint in a dramatic 2-2 draw.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the visitors in the opening moments of the match after excellent work from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, allowing the striker to claim his finish.

Valencia were back on equal terms on the stroke of half-time through a Daniel Parejo penalty, after Pepe had fouled Andre Gomes.

The game swung back and forth in the second half, but the advantage was handed to Los Che after Mateo Kovacic's wild challenge saw the Madrid midfielder shown a straight red card.

The reduction seemed to fuel the Galacticos' desire to win the game, and a wonderful header from Bale appeared to have secured the win in the last 10 minutes,

However, Valencia punished Madrid for their defensive disorganisation only a minute later, as Francisco Alcacer secured the 2-2 result from close range.

ESPN's Dermot Corrigan hailed the English influence on the match as the spoils were shared:

Granada gained only their fourth win in La Liga this season after defeating Sevilla 2-1.

Isaac Success opened the scoring in the 17th minute, followed by an effort by teenage talent Adalberto Penaranda 20 minutes later.

Sevilla found a way back into the game as Vitolo scored on the stroke of half-time, but the visitors were unable to attain a second goal to claim a point.

Eibar continue to confound their detractors in La Liga, after the minnows destroyed Real Betis 4-0 on their travels.

Ander Capa opened the scoring after only three minutes, and it was soon 2-0 as Keko claimed a second. Adrian Gonzalez scored a third goal midway through the second half, leaving Borja to wrap up the points in style.

In the night's other matches, Real Sociedad twice came from behind to equal the score against Rayo Vallecano, as Portuguese talent Bruma claimed a point for the visitors in a 2-2 draw.

Two second-half strikes by Las Palmas earned them a rare point against Athletic Club as the sides drew 2-2, helping the Yellows to pull away from the relegation zone.

It was a disappointing night for Madrid as they failed to fully penetrate the lead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid ahead of them in the table.

Benitez's team played with style on the front foot, but struggled in defence as Valencia drove forward.

Los Che were ambitious in attack, reflecting Neville's upbringing at Manchester United, pushing his team to go for the jugular when it would have been easier to contain.
