Roman Reigns vs Sheamus: Preview and Prediction for WWE World Title Match

Donald WoodJan 4, 2016

On Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, Roman Reigns will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Sheamus with Vince McMahon as the special guest referee.

The champion and No. 1 contender have been involved in several battles before, but McMahon's involvement is a new twist. After Reigns attacked both Triple H and Vince recently, there is no doubt the McMahon family will bring the hammer down on Reigns.

Here is a full preview and prediction for the world title match between Reigns and Sheamus on Monday’s episode of Raw.

Reigns vs. Sheamus

The main event of Monday’s episode of Raw will undoubtedly be the world championship battle between Reigns and Sheamus. With McMahon himself acting as the referee, this is a marquee battle that will intrigue wrestling fans.

Reigns has thwarted Vince’s plans for the last several weeks and has been a thorn in the McMahon family’s side. Now, the Vince and company will be looking to do anything they can to take the title away from Reigns.

Sheamus has not looked like a viable threat to take the title back at any point since he lost it on Dec. 14, and few fans believe he will win the championship Monday, even with the addition of McMahon as referee.

Vince will throw everything at Reigns as the referee Monday night, including slow counts, blatant bias and turning a blind eye to interference. In an attempt to continue getting Reigns over with the fans, stacking the odds against him will help the WWE Universe be sympathetic to his character, especially considering how much heat McMahon will draw as the vindictive boss.

Using an assist from The Usos, Dean Ambrose and maybe even John Cena, Reigns will take down Sheamus and the League of Nations to successfully retain his world title. Vince will have to be taken out at some point in the match, allowing for a second referee to hit the ring and make the three count.

The hope is Reigns gets to hit McMahon with a big spear or Superman Punch to pop the crowd and build even more momentum leading into the Royal Rumble. At some point, McMahon and Triple H will get the upper hand and beat down Reigns, but it likely won’t come on the forthcoming Raw.

Unless WWE Creative has Triple H attack Reigns and cost him the championship—possibly setting up a WrestleMania 32 non-title match—the champion must successfully retain in the rematch with a pinfall victory to further build his credibility.

On the road to WrestleMania, Reigns needs to look as strong as possible if he is going to carry the WWE World Heavyweight Championship into the biggest pay-per-view of the year.

Predicted Winner: Reigns via Pinfall.
