The Associated Press (via ESPN.com) updated Young's condition. He left the game in the first quarter and was taken away on a stretcher.
Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal reported Young's mother, Regina, said the hip is "broken" and that he is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday. Louisville has only commented at this time to characterize the injury as "serious."
Young, a junior, recorded 20 tackles and 8.5 sacks for the Cardinals in 2015. He was an honorable mention selection for the All-ACC team and saw a marked increase in playing time from his sophomore campaign. A junior college transfer, Young thrived in a transition from defensive end to pass-rushing linebacker and would have been a big part of Louisville's 2016 plans.
Now, it'll be a waiting game to update his status. Hip injuries are among the most difficult to recover from, especially for a player who uses his legs and shiftiness to generate explosion around the line of scrimmage. A full update on a timetable for his return will likely be given following surgery, but it's a sad blow at the end of what was a breakout season.
