PDC William Hill World Darts Championship 2015: Monday Scores and Results

Tom SunderlandDec 28, 2015

Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright made it through to the last 16 of this year's PDC World Darts Championship on Monday, defeating Kevin Painter, Andrew Gilding and Ronny Huybrechts, respectively.

Mark Webster upset Terry Jenkins earlier on Monday to book his spot in the third round of this year's World Championship, where he'll face off against Alan Norris, who defeated Joe Murnan to reach the last 16.

They'll be joined by Austrian contender Mensur Suljovic after he beat Briton David Pallett at Alexandra Palace, London, on Day 10 of the tournament schedule.

Monday Recap

"The Power" was shaken early on in his clash against No. 30 seed Painter, but the 16-time world champion hit back from a one-set deficit to ram home a 4-1 victory in the end.

TalkSPORT broadcaster Colin Murray was quick to tease the thought of an upset in Painter's favour after seeing him take out 52 to win the first set, but it proved to be premature:

Taylor pulled level on sets, and although Painter had opportunities to move ahead, he failed to claim another set and had to watch as Taylor hit maximum in each of the final three sets to cap a deserved turnaround.

Fellow Stoke-on-Trent native Lewis was all the more dominant in what turned out to be a one-sided win over Gilding, one that left darts commentator Rod Studd agasp at the quality of Jackpot's display:

Lewis finished with an extremely impressive three-dart average of 103.61, per the official PDC Darts website, and the match was ultimately summed up with his 11-dart winner in the maiden leg.

Jackpot was quick and to the point going about his business, trumping 28th-seeded Gilding eight to two in maximums record. Betway broke down his match by the numbers:

Wright beat Huybrechts by an identical score on Monday and joined fellow Scot Gary Anderson in the last 16 after beating his Belgian opponent with an unanswered performance.

In fact, his 4-0 victory was superior even to Lewis' in some ways as he registered nine maximums in total, per Bet365, falling just shy of Jackpot's own average:

Huybrechts almost began a comeback after hitting two of his total four 180s in the final set, but Wright's no-nonsense approach to finishing meant he hardly got a chance to see through any revival attempt.

Earlier on Monday, Norris' dream Alexandra Palace debut continued on Day 10 as the Somerset native steamed Murnan with a 4-1 win—a match he never looked like losing thanks to his opponent's slow start.

"Chuck" dominated the big scores to lead 3-0 before Murnan claimed his first set of the game, but Norris was too far ahead at that stage and added the finishing touches with a sweetly taken 72.

Norris expressed his delight, per the official PDC Darts Twitter account:

Murnan claimed just four maximums to Norris' 11, per the official PDC Darts website, but it was the latter's four breaks of throw that turned the fixture in his favour.

No. 22 seed Webster will be looked upon as steep competition, however, after he disposed of 11th-seeded Jenkins in straight sets to continue his tournament in triumphant fashion.

The Welshman was in unstoppable form on Monday and allowed his opponent to win just four legs across the four sets played, showing precisely how clinical he was when it came to taking his chances when they arose.

Webster took to his official Twitter account to thank his fans after the win, hoping to surpass the third-place medal he claimed in 2010—his best-ever finish at the World Championships:

The final fixture of Monday's afternoon session proved to be its most heated, too, as Suljovic came out on top of a 4-3 nail-biter to seal his place in the third round of the tournament.

He started off his clash against Pallett in marvellous fashion, making a 160 checkout to aid him in claiming a 1-0 lead following the first set, but his Shropshire-born rival stormed back to go ahead 2-1.

Suljovic didn't let that setback deter his resolve, though, and after coming close to a nine-darter in the fourth set, he clinched back-to-back sets to move 3-2 up.

Pallett missed too many clutch opportunities and could well have upset his No. 21-seeded foe, but Suljovic sniffed up those chances, finishing on 84 with a bullseye to move into the competition's last 16.
