Jordan Scarlett Cited for Marijuana Possession: Latest Comments and Reaction
Florida Gators running back Jordan Scarlett was reportedly suspended Sunday for the team's Citrus Bowl matchup against Michigan on New Year's Day after a citation for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports reported the news of Scarlett's ban. The suspension stems from a Dec. 19 arrest at the Keys Residential Complex in Gainesville, Florida, as Scarlett admitted to the University of Florida Police Department that he'd smoked marijuana, per a UFPD report.
Scarlett is the primary backfield backup to junior Kelvin Taylor and racked up 181 yards rushing and one touchdown this season.
Gators quarterback Treon Harris is Florida's second-leading rusher. The dual-threat signal-caller has to keep the Wolverines defense honest in the Citrus Bowl for Florida to emerge victorious.
Player discipline has been a persistent problem for the Gators under first-year head coach Jim McElwain. Harris was suspended earlier in the year, and the QB who used to start ahead of him, Will Grier, is serving a yearlong ban.
Taylor has been the workhorse for Florida, and he has played well, considering Harris' imprecision as a passer has forced the Gators to become one-dimensional. But the team must have better balance against Michigan's stingy defense, which ranks fourth in the nation in total yards allowed per contest.
Jordan Cronkrite is next in line to receive carries with Scarlett out of the lineup. Cronkrite hasn't found much room to run as a freshman, averaging just 3.4 yards per tote on 41 carries.
