WWE's Top Stories, Rumors and Buzz for Week of December 26

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 26, 2015

We're nearing the end of 2015, but when it comes to WWE, the year may as well be over already. Every pay-per-view is in the record books, and now it's time to start thinking about 2016.

It was a busy week with Raw, a live episode of SmackDown and Tribute to the Troops, but as far as major news is concerned, things were pretty light.

Slammy Controversy

Monday Night RAW

WWE's annual Slammy Awards ceremony was held Monday, and some of the results were met with suggestions of vote-rigging on social media.

The trophy most felt was awarded to the wrong winner was for Tag Team of the Year. The Usos won, but many thought it should have been The New Day, and rightfully so.

Jey Uso was on the shelf for several months with an injury, while Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were rising through the ranks to become the most entertaining act in WWE today. Just look at some of the reactions on Twitter:

Joey Styles defended the results through his own Twitter account. He claimed an outside firm was responsible for tabulating the votes and that it would be ridiculous for officials to fix the results in the first place.

In the end, everyone is going to have their own opinion on the matter, regardless of what anyone says to the contrary, so all we can do now is hope The New Day sticks around long enough to win the Slammy next year.

Swerved Gets Second Season/Heath Slater Gets Slammy Support

Michael Cole has been doing weekly interviews on WWE.com for quite some time, and this week he featured Heath Slater as his guest.

Slater has been used sparingly on TV for several months, but his support online has been growing thanks to his #HitSlatersMusic hashtag.

According to the interview, Slater placed eighth among WWE Superstars for the Superstar of the Year Slammy, which means he beat out the majority of the roster, including some who are on television every week.

Another bit of news revealed in the interview is the WWE Network show Swerved received a second season.

The prank-themed show produced some laughs in the first season, but its future seemed to be up in the air due to wrestlers likely being upset at constantly having to watch their backs.

It will be interesting to see if the show takes a different format in 2016. Perhaps it will be wrestlers pulling pranks on regular fans instead of on each other.

Darren Young Confirms Injury

Speculation has run rampant about Darren Young possibly being injured, especially since Titus O'Neil has been appearing without him in segments with Stardust.

Young posted a picture on his Twitter account showing him rehabbing what appears to be an injury to one of his quadriceps.

This is an unfortunate setback for Young, but it's not the first time he has had to fight his way back from an injury. He was out of action in 2014 due to a torn ACL, so he knows how to rehab an injury the right way.

When he returns, he may reunite with O'Neil or just go off on his own if his Prime Time Players partner is doing something else.

That's it for this week, and that's just about it for 2015. What are you hoping the next year brings for WWE?
