Teddy Bridgewater, Stefon Diggs, Adrian Peterson's Post-Week 15 Fantasy Advice

Daniel KramerDec 20, 2015

The Minnesota Vikings continued their run at the NFC North with a convincing 38-17 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday and even avoided an injury scare along the way.

Star running back Adrian Peterson left in the second quarter with an ailing ankle and eventually returned—but perhaps not as early as his fantasy owners had hoped.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater carried the offense remarkably in the former MVP’s stead with a career-high five total touchdowns, including two passing scores to wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Bridgewater wreaked havoc on a Bears secondary that entered Sunday ranked second against the pass. He only threw for 231 yards, but he was as efficient as any Viking in team history, as shown by ESPN Stats & Info:

Blocked lanes in the pass game at points created open lanes on the ground, and Bridgewater also rewarded owners with a rushing score, courtesy of the NFL:

While he hasn’t been a fantasy phenom by any stretch—he’s ranked 25th among quarterbacks and has played in every game—Bridgewater deserves consideration for Week 16 for his heroics against a talented Bears secondary.

The Vikings will take on the New York Giants and the league’s worst-ranked pass defense next Sunday.

Diggs was one of the hottest receivers on the waiver market during the midseason, but he hit a stretch from Weeks 9-14 in which he averaged 3.5 fantasy points per contest.

His fantasy ownership tanked to just 55.4 percent, but he rewarded those who stuck with him Sunday with a pair of scores.

NFL Fantasy Football made a quip about the playoff timing of Diggs’ late-season resurgence:

While his day was productive, owners should be wary about readding Diggs this late in the season. Bridgewater only threw the ball 20 times Sunday, and Diggs only had three receptions on four targets.

This is ultimately a run-first team, and it’ll play-call as such in the final two weeks—especially if it gets off to an early lead.

Peterson was reinstalled on the team’s second drive of the third quarter, but he finished with just 3.5 yards per carry (63 yards total) and no touchdowns.

In a game the Vikings scored five times, Peterson’s owners have to be disappointed he wasn’t a part of it—particularly given the star running back was likely one of the focal figures who helped many fantasy teams reach the playoffs.

After a strong stretch in the middle of the season, Peterson is averaging just six points per game the last three weeks.

If his owners are reaching the championship round, they’ll have to consider Peterson will face two defenses from the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants that rank better against the run than the Bears.

Peterson remains the league’s leading rusher and should be a start in most formats; however, anxious owners with depth at running back may want to consider other options.
