Jah Reid, Chiefs Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Kansas City Chiefs right tackle Jah Reid signed a three-year contract extension Thursday.
The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reported the news of Reid's new deal, which was confirmed by the team later Thursday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the extension is worth $10.2 million, and Reid has a chance to make $12 million with just under $4 million in guarantees.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Reid was a 2011 third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens but only started seven games with the organization before joining the Chiefs this season. The 27-year-old has already made eight starts in Kansas City—including the past six contests at right tackle—amid the team's run of seven straight victories.
After being arrested on battery charges in March 2014 and contributing little to the Ravens that year, Baltimore didn't want Reid back once his rookie contract expired. That led to a chance with the Chiefs he's taken full advantage of.
Head coach Andy Reid recently praised the job Jah Reid has done since arriving in Kansas City and cracking the starting lineup, per The Baltimore Sun's Jon Meoli:
"Jah has been a good pickup for us, just from the stand point of we got banged up up front there, and so he was thrown in, kind of, in the action his first week here against the Texans. A couple games after that, he played, and then he had a little hiatus there, where he didn't play; and we've had to bring him back here. So, he has been very valuable to us from that respect.
"
Rapoport essentially agreed with the coach's evaluation:
Although Football Outsiders rates Kansas City 29th in pass protection entering Week 15, it also has the unit third in run blocking. That has been the biggest key in the aftermath of running back Jamaal Charles' torn ACL in October—an injury many were led to believe signaled the Chiefs' 2015 demise.
The offensive line has indeed been a driving force for the Chiefs' exceptional run over the past two months, which has vaulted them from likely top-five draft status into the thick of the AFC playoff picture.
Reid has done a tremendous job battling back from an unsavory start to his NFL career with the Ravens and embodied Kansas City's resilient mentality this season. He has the talent to be a multiyear starter, and the Chiefs were wise to lock him up as a preventative measure before free agency.
It appears as though Reid and 2013 No. 1 overall draft pick Eric Fisher are just beginning to realize their potential at offensive tackle, which bodes well for the team's future.
If Charles can return to full health and benefit from the great blocking Reid and Co. have provided in KC's rushing attack, there's reason to believe the Chiefs will be part of the playoff conversation for the next several seasons.
