Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reported the news Wednesday. Henderson, 23, was previously listed on the Bills' injury report with an undisclosed illness. Crohn's is an inflammatory bowel disease that can cause weight loss, pain and unpredictable bowel movements. Henderson has reportedly lost nearly 20 pounds.
Henderson was benched in favor of Jordan Mills earlier this month but was expected to re-enter the lineup last week before being sick. Carucci's report indicated Henderson was hospitalized in Philadelphia prior to the Bills' 23-20 loss to the Eagles on Sunday and stayed behind to receive treatment.
In his second season out of Miami, Henderson had started his first 26 NFL games. While he was a surprise breakthrough player in 2015, his second season has mostly been met with struggles. Pro Football Focus ranks him as the 60th-best offensive tackle in football so far this season; he's tied as the 10th-worst primary right tackle.
Mills should continue to see the work at right tackle with Henderson out. Given the weight the 23-year-old's already lost, it would be a surprise to see him back on the field. He'll need time to regain his strength and also to find a way to manage the disease, which is chronic.
