Big E Continues to Show Potential as Future World Champion in The New Day

Aaron BowerDec 16, 2015

In professional wrestling, all good things must come to an end.

The New Day's run as one of the hottest stables in recent years is far from over yet, but the time will come when all three members of the group will go in their own direction.

Splitting from a faction and going it alone as a solo star will be a tough ask for all three members of The New Day, but Big E continues to show flickers of potential that hint he is more than capable of standing on his own two feet.

He has a decent amount of pedigree behind him as a solo star anyway, winning the NXT Championship and working as an intercontinental champion before The New Day came together as a group.

Even then, he showed glimmers of how high he could rise up the ladder in WWE, especially in NXT. The time spent in the developmental brand saw him devise a pretty clever gimmick, with Big E creating his "five-count," which seemed to catch on with fans.

Announcers dubbed him The Master of the Five-Count, staying on his opponents for an additional two seconds after scoring a winning pinfall. It was a great gimmick that instantly showed he had the potential to take something small and run with it.

That didn't transfer up to the main roster, but he quickly found a home alongside AJ Lee and Dolph Ziggler, primarily working as Ziggler's heavy.

His split from Ziggler and subsequent babyface turn didn't quite work out, but since moving into The New Day with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, Big E seems to have the full package.

There's his in-ring performances, for starters. Big E has an extraordinary mix of power and surprising agility for someone his size, and he's been putting on some strong showings as a member of The New Day.

But as many wrestling fans know, being neat and tidy inside the ring is only half the battle these days, as a high level of ability on the mic is also vital. Thankfully, Big E has that in abundance.

The idea with The New Day is that Xavier Woods is the true mouthpiece of the group, but Big E often overshadows Woods with his innovative, enjoyable and ultimately hilarious promo work.

It's well-noted on commentary that Big E's dance moves in celebrating a victory for The New Day are certainly out there, and he backs all that up with some solid work on the microphone.

All in all, he just seems to be a solid and exciting talent. At the age of only 29, Big E has years ahead of him in WWE, and that's more than enough time to get up to the top of the ladder.

Things might look tough at the moment for his chances of ever winning a world title, but circumstances change all the time. His time will arrive at some point, and when it does, expect him to take it with both hands.

The New Day have produced plenty of positives for WWE over the past year. But above all else, the spotlight on the group has revealed that Big E is a star of both the present and the future.
