Kyle Allen Granted Release from Texas A&M: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Texas A&M announced Thursday sophomore quarterback Kyle Allen will transfer following a season-long battle under center with freshman signal-caller Kyler Murray.
Lee Benson of KAGS-TV in College Station, Texas, passed along confirmation from the school regarding Allen's transfer request:
Allen posted a heartfelt message on Twitter shortly after the announcement was made:
As a sophomore, Allen completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 2,210 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, the pro-style prospect split time with Murray before head coach Kevin Sumlin handed the reins to the dual-threat freshman.
A former 5-star prospect, according to 247Sports, Allen should have no shortage of suitors on the open market.
ESPN national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton pointed to a Pac-12 school as one of Allen's potential destinations:
However, Allen told Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports he was looking a bit closer to Texas:
""Oklahoma comes to mind because it does fit all those things, and my old (high school) teammate (Mark Andrews) is a receiver there, and coach (Bob) Stoops is an all-time great coach," Allen said.
According to Allen, he has been released to transfer to any school except those in the SEC and future Aggie opponents.
"
California would make loads of sense for Allen if junior Jared Goff declares for the 2016 NFL draft, as many have speculated he will. The Golden Bears run an Air Raid offense similar to the one used at Texas A&M, so the adjustment wouldn't be as harsh for Allen as he seeks to build his draft portfolio and emerge as one of the nation's finest passers.
Once a heralded recruit, Allen may simply need a change of scenery to make good on his tremendous promise.
