Rueben Randle Comments on Giants Offense, Odell Beckham Jr. Being No. 1 WR
New York Giants wide receiver Rueben Randle has been upstaged by fellow LSU product Odell Beckham Jr. as the team's premier playmaker. It's apparently weighing on the fourth-year pro.
"My opportunities have been cut down a little more," Randle told WFAN on Tuesday (h/t the New York Post's Paul Schwartz). "Odell is pretty much the prime target for us offensively. It's definitely frustrating. As a receiver, you want to get more involved. It can be kind of tough when the opportunities are limited."
While Beckham makes one-handed catches for the ages and turns short slant routes into long touchdowns, Randle continues to struggle finding his stride in the Big Apple.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
That's been the story of his NFL career to date, as he's failed to meet expectations as a 2012 second-round draft pick.
Even with star receiver Victor Cruz missing the entire season this year, there hasn't been a steady role for Randle in the Giants' passing attack. He has 533 yards on 42 catches this year compared to Beckham's 78 grabs for 1,154 yards.
NJ.com's Jordan Raanan asserted that Randle is a simple scapegoat for New York's struggles:
"Randle has become easy guy for everyone to pick on. Coaches, everyone frustrated #giants https://t.co/4jtFbCcRNC
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) December 8, 2015"
After all, just about anyone starting opposite Beckham would likely pale in comparison. Nevertheless, quarterback Eli Manning does lean on Beckham and often prefers to target the tight ends at his disposal and pass-catching running back Shane Vereen over his No. 2 wideout.
Randle appears to be getting antsy, which is reasonable considering New York is in the playoff picture and NFC East hunt despite a 5-7 record. The 24-year-old evidently feels he can contribute more.
But another factor to bear in mind is Randle is in a contract year. If he's unable to string together strong games down the stretch, his open-market value is going to sink, likely leading him to a short-term, prove-it deal in free agency.
Although Randle still has time to turn things around, Manning may be wary of looking his way after connecting on only three of 12 targets over the past two games.
