Canelo Alvarez Reportedly Sued for 2011 Altercation: Latest Details and Comments
According to TMZ Sports, Ulises Solis has sued Canelo Alvarez for $9 million following a physical altercation.
Solis claims he fractured his jaw in a street fight with Alvarez, and the broken jaw subsequently prevented him from defending his IBF light flyweight title in 2012. The IBF then stripped him of the belt.
In an interview with Mexican newspaper El Universal (via Fox Sports), Solis explained his side of the story:
"I ran into Alvarez after training and I moved to the side to let him pass, but he ran into me. He asked me, "Why are you messing with my woman?" I told him that I don't even know her and all of a sudden he hit me with a left and right cross that fractured my jaw. I fell back and he hit me with two more punches — to the temple and the chest.
"
Alvarez admitted to being at the scene but denied he was the one who attacked Solis.
"It's not true at all. [The fight] wasn't with me," Alvarez said in October 2011, per Miguel Rivera of BoxingScene.com. "It was with one of my brothers, but not with me. I was there. I just want to clarify that it's not true."
Although authorities in Mexico sought an arrest warrant for Alvarez stemming from his role in the incident, he has yet to be charged with any crime.
