Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams Post-Week 13 Fantasy Advice

Mike NorrisDec 3, 2015

The Green Bay Packers offense got off to its typical slow start Thursday against the Detroit Lions but showed some life in the second half during a 27-23 victory.

Aaron Rodgers threw his first touchdown pass of the game with four minutes, six seconds left in the third quarter and picked up his first rushing touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter, but it was a 61-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Richard Rodgers on the final play of the game that had fantasy owners jumping for joy:

Rodgers has come back to earth in the past few weeks following a hot start, but he should always be considered a No. 1 guy. He was the No. 4 overall quarterback heading into Week 13.

Even though you can't leave Rodgers on the bench, he does have a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14. They are allowing only 14.5 fantasy points per game.

Despite that, Rodgers, with his 24 touchdowns heading into Week 13, has earned elite status and is a must-start no matter what.

His No. 1 wide receiver, Randall Cobb, is a different story. Because of his monster stats in the past, it's hard to keep Cobb on the bench, but it seems as though a shoulder injury he suffered earlier in the season may still be bothering him.

Cobb had seen just two targets until late into the fourth quarter Thursday:

Cobb has been sporadic this season. He hauled in three touchdowns in Week 3 but had scored just two since entering Thursday's matchup (and fantasy owners should ignore his lucky fumble recovery for a touchdown against the Lions).

Although he caught six of seven targets in a Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears, in the preceding three weeks, he caught only 11 percent of his 31 targets.

Dallas is just as good against pass-catchers as it is against quarterbacks in terms of fantasy points, allowing the fifth fewest to wide receivers this season.

Cobb's inconsistency warrants low-end WR2 consideration at this point. Fantasy owners shouldn't relegate him to the bench because of his big-game potential, but if your roster is strong at the wide receiver position, don't feel the need to play him because of past numbers.

Davante Adams caught his first touchdown of the season against Detroit, and his stock is slowly rising:

Despite a subpar game in terms of targets, yards and receptions, Adams finally rewarded owners with a score. In three of the four games preceding Thursday's matchup, he had 11, 11 and 21 targets without a score.

Rodgers enjoys throwing the ball to Adams, who is slightly above Cobb right now in the pecking order, mainly because of the amount of targets he sees, which should eventually lead to more scores.

Because Rodgers has been up and down and the Cowboys defense poses a tough challenge, though, consider Adams no more than a moderate WR2 at this point.
