Dabo Swinney Named ACC Coach of the Year: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
The Clemson Tigers have been the class of the ACC in 2015, and their head coach was richly rewarded as a result. According to Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times, Dabo Swinney won ACC Coach of the Year.
Swinney helped lead Clemson to its fifth-straight 10-plus-win season, and the Tigers are one victory away from the College Football Playoff:
| Dabo Swinney | Clemson | 27 |
| Larry Fedora | North Carolina | 21 |
| Jimbo Fisher | Florida State | 1 |
| Pat Narduzzi | Pittsburgh | 1 |
"It's really special," Swinney said of the team's strong 2015 season to date, per Steve Phillips for TheACC.com. "I think everybody should take time to embrace that from a Clemson standpoint. We certainly have tried to do that."
Despite his impressive record at the school, this is the first major individual honor for him since capturing the 2011 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.
Some likely felt Larry Fedora was a more deserving COY candidate after North Carolina's five-win improvement from last year's 6-7 record. The Tar Heels could potentially earn a playoff berth should it beat Clemson in the ACC title game.
ESPN.com's Jared Shanker countered that voters made the right decision:
Swinney has consistently had Clemson in the national spotlight since taking over as head coach on a full-time basis. However, the Tigers have been unable to truly take that next step and compete for a national championship.
That could change this year, and in doing so, they'd give the term "Clemsoning" a new definition.
