Reggie Jackson Fined $25K for Inappropriate Language: Latest Details, Reaction
Detroit Pistons guard Reggie Jackson has been fined $25,000 after using inappropriate language toward a fan in the team's 103-87 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Nov. 27, the NBA announced Tuesday.
Jackson was caught on video hurling expletives toward an Oklahoma City fan, and Patrick Redford of Deadspin posted a video of the incident (Warning: Link contains profanity).
Jackson, 25, spent his first three-and-a-half NBA seasons with the Thunder before being dealt to Detroit last year in a three-way trade that landed the Thunder Enes Kanter from the Utah Jazz. Friday's game against the Thunder was his first trip to Oklahoma City since that trade.
When asked by David Mayo of MLive.com if a fan said something degrading to him that prompted his tirade, Jackson said "probably" before adding he wasn't sure what Mayo was referencing. He then went into more detail about interactions with fans in general:
"Fans say some off-the-wall stuff. It's crazy. It's crazy how we're treated. They get to talk to you however they want. It's reckless. I wish somebody would say something like they talk to us on the court off the court. It's out of control. You wouldn't talk to anybody like that off the court. They feel protected in the stands. Some fans need to be tossed.
"
Jackson has been excellent for the Pistons this year, averaging 19.1 points, 6.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. But he'll need to control his emotions in future exchanges with fans, as his actions in this case reflected poorly both on himself and on the Pistons organization.
