Ranking Barcelona's Top 5 Players for November 2015
November has been a glorious month for FC Barcelona. They played five games, winning each of them, scoring a total of 20 goals and conceding just one.
They opened up a six-point lead on archrivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, and provided they don't suffer any shock results in the next few weeks, they will be in a good position come January, when they will be reinforced by Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal.
Here are their results for November:
Barcelona 3-0 BATE Borisov (UCL)
Barcelona 3-0 Villarreal (Liga)
Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (Liga)
Barcelona 6-1 Roma (UCL)
Barcelona 4-0 Real Sociedad (Liga)
What follows is a ranking of the five best players from the month.
5. Gerard Pique
1 of 5
The only way Gerard Pique's November could have been better is if Munir El Haddadi hadn't ruined his chance of scoring a fifth Barcelona goal in El Clasico.
Pique was lurking in the box, waiting for the ball to run across for him so he could fire into an unguarded net, but with Keylor Navas out of position, Munir got their first and shot wide of goal.
The defender fumed at the young attacker, wishing he had been able to fire Barcelona 5-0 up against their most bitter opponents, securing what is known in Spain as a "manita" (little hand, a goal for each finger).
Pique got his goal in the next game, scoring in the 6-1 rout of Roma as he turned in another classy display at the back.
He had gone off long before Barcelona conceded, so Barca didn't let in a single goal during November when Pique was on the pitch.
He was booked in the wins over Villarreal and Roma, but by and large he has been at his solid best.
4. Sergio Busquets
2 of 5
Game by game, Sergio Busquets is growing into the season. The central midfielder is the best in his position in the world and is helping Barcelona control matches.
In fact, in their current form, they look like they are taking the best parts of the Pep Guardiola team—that stranglehold on possession, the rhythm and slick passing—and mixing it with Luis Enrique's counter-attacking incision from last season.
Busquets has been a big part of that coming to pass after a slow start to the season. The midfielder is key in both winning the ball back for Barcelona and starting attacks.
When he's been asked to play further forward. he's done it well, and he even set up one of Barcelona's goals against Villarreal.
Right now, nobody can best Busquets, and along with an improved Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta's magical form, Barcelona's midfield trio is almost as important as the trident ahead of it.
3. Luis Suarez
3 of 5
Luis Suarez has not had to worry about international fixtures and travel this season because of his ban at that level, and it's working out for him.
The Uruguayan looks fresh, ready and raring to get stuck into any team that comes his way. His form in November has simply been lethal.
He has scored in each of Barcelona's five fixtures, picking up seven goals and three assists in total.
Suarez's relationship on the pitch with Neymar was what kept the team flying in the absence of Lionel Messi, and now the Argentinian is back it shows no signs of breaking up.
Instead, Messi has rejoined the group and found the two playing at a significantly higher level than they were when he got injured in September.
Suarez's two goals against Real Madrid were the key moments of his month, but he scored brilliant volleys in the Roma and Real Sociedad clashes too.
2. Andres Iniesta
4 of 5
One day after the 10-year anniversary of when the Santiago Bernabeu clapped Ronaldinho, Andres Iniesta received the same treatment.
The Barcelona playmaker pulled all the strings during the crunch Clasico clash, which saw the hosts destroyed in front of their bewildered supporters.
As well as setting up a goal for Neymar, Iniesta found the net himself, brilliantly rifling home after the Brazilian returned the favour.
Madrid's fans applauded the maestro, who celebrated his first Clasico as captain with a victory and a man-of-the-match display.
If that had been his only game in November, he could still have made this list—so good was his performance.
But the truth is Iniesta has been playing at a high level for weeks.
He was wonderful during the wins over Villarreal and Real Sociedad, and Barcelona will hope this sparkling form continues.
1. Neymar
5 of 5
Simply unstoppable.
Neymar was the best player in the world during November, taking that role from Lionel Messi, who was out injured until his Clasico comeback in late in the month.
In Messi's absence, Neymar has grown as a player, and although he was always capable of eviscerating teams, he's never done it on quite this scale or with as much frequency.
He's the player Barcelona's opponents love to hate, with Isco's kick on the Brazilian in the Clasico, which earned him a red card, being the closest a Real Madrid player got to him all day.
Like Suarez, he has seven goals and three assists in November, but on top of that, he played an instrumental part in so many Barcelona moves.
Neymar comes deep and collects the ball on occasion, as Messi does, driving forward and unbalancing defenders.
He was man of the match against Real Sociedad on Saturday, scoring twice and setting up Messi's goal at the end with another of those perplexing, lightning bursts down the left.
Neymar is so good it's scary, and for Barcelona to have the two best players in the world makes things very difficult for their opponents.
