WWE Survivor Series 2015 Matches: Breaking Down Top Matches on the Card

Brad JonesNov 21, 2015

The card that has been assembled for Survivor Series 2015 may not be the one we expected before Seth Rollins' unfortunate injury—but it should offer up a compelling evening of pro wrestling.

Between the conclusion of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament and the return of the Brothers of Destruction, there's plenty of reason to expect a stellar show tomorrow night.

All eyes will be on Roman Reigns, the man hotly tipped to exit the event with the world title around his waist. However, it seems likely that WWE will insert some kind of twist into the tale to ensure that fans aren't put off by the idea of a foregone conclusion.

Here's everything you need to know about the biggest matches set to play out at Survivor Series 2015.

Paige vs. Charlotte

1 of 5

This week, the rivalry between Paige and Charlotte over the Divas Championship took a personal turn, as the Anti-Diva brought the champion's late brother Reid into a heated in-ring promo.

For better or for worse, the angle has certainly brought a great deal of attention to the storyline and the match. Opinion is split over whether or not a line was crossed, and tomorrow night's match will need to be stellar to salvage the feud.

This rivalry needs to be about the Divas Championship, first and foremost. The hugely personal element certainly raises the stakes, but the division could still stand to avoid such options so soon after Nikki Bella's memorably bad 'died in the womb' line a couple of years ago.

Fortunately, both Paige and Charlotte are at their best between the ropes. Both have struggled to make the same impact on the main roster as they did in NXT, but tonight could be a turning point in that respect.

It might only take one truly standout match to transform the Divas Revolution from a marketing catchphrase into an accurate description of a division undergoing huge changes. The talent is all there—it's just a matter of presenting things the right way.

Expect this to be an above-average Divas Championship match, cutting through the debate about Monday night's misguided segment. Given the right amount of time, this could well be one of the best bouts of the evening.

Brothers of Destruction vs. the Wyatt Family

2 of 5

For the first time in several years, tomorrow night the Brothers of Destruction will compete live on pay-per-view.

Having been used sparingly on television since Hell in a Cell, there's some sense of anticipation for seeing the pair back together.

The mystique of Kane may have been siphoned off thanks to his corporate run, but seeing him stood next to the Undertaker counteracts much of that process. They may be older, but the Brothers of Destruction still look like a major roadblock for the Wyatt Family.

However, it has to be said that momentum is firmly with the Wyatts. Bray may have lost against Roman Reigns last month at Hell in a Cell, but since he and his underlings carried Undertaker away to close out the night, there's been an extra edge of confidence to their actions.

At long last, the stable seems to be living up to its potential. Wyatt finally has a cult to lead, and he's using them to their full potential.

While this will certainly be an enjoyable brawl—and an important test for relative newcomer Braun Strowman—fans will be watching to see where this leads for the Undertaker. It seems likely that we'll see some kind of indication of what's next for the Deadman.

That being said, the focus should stay on the Wyatts. With a big win here, the group could have the momentum they need for the run-up to WrestleMania and beyond.

Roman Reigns vs. Alberto Del Rio

3 of 5

The biggest twist WWE could offer up this evening would be for Roman Reigns to lose this match. However, it seems very unlikely that we'll see that scenario play out.

Alberto Del Rio is one of the best and most consistent in-ring performers on the WWE roster at present. That is likely the primary reason that we're seeing him take on Reigns at this crucial stage in the latter's career.

Look back to Fastlane earlier this year—Reigns took on Daniel Bryan in a bout that was as good as any the Juggernaut has taken part in as a singles competitor. Pairing the anointed heir to the throne with a technical wizard seems to be WWE's preferred strategy to gain the desired response from all sections of the audience.

Whether it works is another story entirely. Del Rio and Reigns will likely have a great match, but this semi-final seems almost like a foregone conclusion. Meanwhile, El Patron doesn't have the same crowd support that made Reigns' clash with Cesaro last Monday so memorable.

Don't anticipated any surprises in the way this one plays out, but the pair will likely make up for that fact with a great bout from bell to bell.

Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens

4 of 5

Despite the tournament bracket being rather predictable on the whole, this semifinal is the most open-ended we'll see tonight.

The smart money may well be on Dean Ambrose to win and go on to meet his best friend Roman Reigns in the final—perhaps even going on to claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the process.

However, Kevin Owens is a dark horse to win the whole thing. He's perhaps the best replacement for Seth Rollins from an Authority perspective, and his Prizefighter ethos would certainly make the title his top priority.

In terms of the match itself, we're looking at a brawl here—but a smart one. Both Ambrose and Owens are known for getting down and dirty when the situation calls for it, but there's a great deal of intelligence between the two also.

Owens will likely be going into this semi-final with one eye on a title fight later in the evening, which could well be his undoing. Meanwhile, Ambrose needs to ensure that his unruly offence doesn't earn him a win while leaving him as an easy target for the finals.

Again, the Lunatic Fringe will be most people's pick to gain entry into the conclusion of the tournament—but it would be very unwise to count KO out.

Tournament Finals

5 of 5

There's a degree of uncertainty to the exact bout we'll see close out the world title tournament, but Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns seems like the most likely option.

The relationship between the two simply offers up the most compelling route for either man to claim the title—particularly since it would be their first reign.

However, there's a good case for Kevin Owens to compete in the place of Ambrose. WWE might not want to have the audience split between two fan favorites, and KO is certainly able to garner jeers from just about any crowd he wrestles in front of.

That being said, the four men in the tournament aren't the only ones liable to make an appearance to close out the night.

Sheamus is still in possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase, and would perhaps be wise to use it when the newly crowned champion will have wrestled two matches over the course of the night. There's also the possibility of Triple H playing some part in the way things play out.

All signs point to Roman Reigns claiming the championship and holding it until at least WrestleMania—but it's always sensible to expect the unexpected in a situation like this one.
