O'Brien Comments on Rumors Linking Him to Maryland Job
Tuesday, Nov. 17
Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien addressed rumors linking him to the Maryland job, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle:
"Again, these things get thrown out here by the media, and I will not respond to those things. I know you have to ask that and it’s not directed at you, but anyone can say anything. They can just throw it out there and say anything. All I know is that I’m head coach of the Houston Texans and we just had a great win. And I’m damn proud to be the head coach of the Houston Texans.
"
O'Brien's comments echo what John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported on Nov. 15, when he said the head coach was not interested in the position.
On Nov. 15, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported O'Brien could return to the college game, primarily due to tensions between O'Brien, Texans general manager Rick Smith and the organization overall.
O'Brien last coached at Penn State before taking the job with the Texans and was a running backs coach for the Terrapins from 2003 to 2004, moving on to Duke and the New England Patriots after that.
