Jeff Van Gundy Rips Dallas Fans for Booing DeAndre Jordan, Cheering Greg Hardy
Add ESPN analyst and former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy to the growing number of critics of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy. Covering Wednesday's game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks, Van Gundy compared the situations of Hardy and Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.
"I would also, Mike, like the Dallas fans to acknowledge the sheer lunacy and absurdity that they're booing DeAndre Jordan tonight, and they'll be cheering someone like Greg Hardy on Sunday," Van Gundy said on the ESPN broadcast. "That, to me, is absurd. All this guy did was change his mind."
As expected, Dallas fans greeted Jordan with a chorus of boos during pregame introductions. The All-NBA center has become a pariah after backing out of his commitment to join the Mavericks over the summer, choosing instead to rejoin the Clippers. Wednesday was his first game in Dallas of the season.
Hardy, of course, has been in the news over the last week thanks to multiple Deadspin reports detailing his 2014 domestic violence case. Diana Moskovitz of Deadspin obtained police records and photographs (warning: graphic content) depicting bruising on Hardy's ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder, who claimed he beat, choked and threatened to kill her.
Hardy was convicted on domestic violence charges, but the case was appealed and eventually dismissed when Holder stopped cooperating with prosecutors. Hardy signed with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason and has played in their last four games after serving a four-game suspension.
