Wladimir Klitschko Says Tyson Fury Has Mental Problems Ahead of Title Fight

Rory MarsdenNov 11, 2015

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has said his upcoming opponent, Tyson Fury, is "bi-polaric for sure" and believes the Englishman "has mental issues."

Klitschko is putting his WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight belts on the line against the Englishman at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Nov. 28.

Fury has employed some unusual tactics in the buildup, such as dressing up as Batman at a press conference and accusing Klitschko of being a devil-worshipper in a recent interview, per the Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt.

The Ukrainian champion has now said he believes the undefeated 27-year-old—12 years his junior—has psychological problems, per John Dillon of the Sun"He is bi-polaric for sure. He has mental issues for sure. Tyson is bizarre. The guy is going to end up working in the circus. Some of the things that come out of his mouth don’t work well with me."

Fury has previously admitted to struggling with depression in the past, per the Observer's Donald McRae.

Klitschko is not the only one questioning Fury's state of mind ahead of the upcoming title fight, with Holt casting doubts on his mental preparedness in the self-styled Gypsy King's strange interview.

Fury himself, though, has oozed confidence throughout the prolonged buildup to the clash—the initial date was delayed after Klitschko picked up an injury.

He is adamant he can topple Klitschko and continues to call him out in the press and on social media:

Fury has earned his shot at the big time after going unbeaten in 24 fights in his professional career.

However, taking on Klitschko, who has dominated the heavyweight division for a decade, is a huge step up from the likes of recent victims Dereck Chisora and Christian Hammer.

With the days ticking down until the fight in Germany, the moment is coming closer to when the talking will stop.

For now, though, the war of words will continue, despite the fact that it will likely make little difference in the ring.
