Charlotte's Lack of Personality Development Is Destroying Feud with Paige
When Charlotte defends the WWE Divas Championship against Paige on November 22 at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, fans will witness a clash between two women on two completely different ends of the character development spectrum.
On one hand, there is Paige, WWE's resident anti-Diva and one of the most rebellious and manipulative villains in the entire division. For two years. she has straddled the fine line between baby face and heel, stabbing close friends in the back and alienating herself from the rest of the roster if it means accomplishing her ultimate goal of winning the Divas Championship.
No matter how often she betrays friends or partakes in underhanded actions, she remains incredibly popular with fans because she is the antithesis of the typical Diva.

On the other hand is Charlotte, a Diva who made tremendous strides in her second year of competition, becoming NXT Women's champion. The daughter of the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, she has risen rapidly to the point that she is now Divas champion, the leader of the division.
And therein lies the problem.
Charlotte is Ric Flair's daughter, and that is the extent of the character development that she has undergone to this point.
She has no motivation other than being champion; she has no real interesting background or reason for doing what she does. She is a second-generation star who wins some, loses some and puts her own cool spin on her dad's finisher.
It is that lack of character development that has hampered her rivalry with Paige and has doomed it to mediocrity.
After being betrayed by Paige, Charlotte has done little to show any emotion, to show any real anger. Instead, she has vowed to retain her title and to do so with "Flair." Wooooo!
While the argument can be made that she is certainly still finding her feet as a main-roster competitor, so little has been done to progress her character that she may very well be the least interesting woman on the roster.
That will have to change.
At what point does Charlotte earn the wrath of fans disinterested and disenfranchised by her blandness and reliance on her father's name to fuel her on-screen persona? Sometime soon if WWE Creative is not careful.
No matter how good a worker she is, the criticisms will prove overwhelming if fans are not given another reason to care about her. Especially with the more interesting Paige, Sasha Banks and even Nikki Bella are poised to dominate the division for the foreseeable future.
Charlotte certainly holds the title with the respect of a champion, and her in-ring work has evolved over time to the point that she is one of the best wrestlers in the division. But the quality of one's title reigns and in-ring work do not matter if the character remains so one-dimensional for so long.
Just ask John Cena.
Charlotte and Paige will tear the house down at the November 22 Survivor Series by sheer willpower alone, especially if they are given enough time to tell a story. But it could all be for naught if WWE Creative does not recognize the problems that exist with the champion and set out to fix them, to adjust the way they handle the champion.
Given the lack of true star power on the roster, it would behoove the company to make the necessary changes and watch as Charlotte and her fellow NXT alumni change the way fans think of women's wrestling.
Even with that ridiculous "Divas Revolution" tagline.
