Tim Bradley vs. Brandon Rios: Live Round-by-Round Results and Fight Highlights
Timothy Bradley should've hired Teddy Atlas a long time ago.
Desert Storm dominated Brandon Rios on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, dropping and stopping the rugged former lightweight champion in Round 9 to retain his WBO Welterweight Championship.
Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KO) was making his first start under Atlas, who was hired in September to replace longtime trainer Joel Diaz after an acrimonious split.
The pairing paid immediate dividends for the five time world champion. He was more elusive than we've seen him in recent fights, using his footwork and smart aggression to control the action and minimize risks.
Bradley was exciting without being vulnerable or fighting outside of himself, and he definitely did enough to once again stake his claim as one of the 147-pound division's best fighters.
Rios (33-3-1, 24 KO) looked like a shell of the fighter who electrified audiences with his gutsy, all-action style. He was out of shape and never seemed to have the energy to fight back against a quicker, more skilled foe. He announced his retirement in the ring after the fight.
In the co-feature, Vasyl Lomachenko continued to stake his claim to the featherweight throne with a dominant stoppage win over badly overmatched Romulo Koasicha in Round 10.
Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KO) dominated every minute of the fight with his precise footwork, landing a ridiculous 64 percent of his power shots and flooring the Mexican challenger with three big left hooks to the body to end the fight.
Koasicha, who was battered all night, made no effort to rise from one knee and took the 10 count.
