Carter-Williams Ruled Out for Season

Monday, March 7

The Bucks announced Carter-Williams will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. He is expected to make a recovery in three months.

Carter-Williams Can't Shake Injury Bug

MCW is a huge part of the Bucks' youth movement as they look to become contenders in the Eastern Conference, but few could have predicted at this time last year that he would wind up in Milwaukee.

The Philadelphia 76ers, who selected Carter-Williams with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, dealt him to the Bucks in the middle of last season in a three-team deal that also sent Brandon Knight from Milwaukee to the Phoenix Suns.

Carter-Williams won the Rookie of the Year Award in his debut campaign and followed that up with a sophomore season in which he averaged 14.6 points, 6.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game between the Sixers and Bucks.

Many expected the former Syracuse standout to continue building upon his production in 2015-16, but this season has been a tough one, as he has moved in and out of the starting lineup. Even more concerning are Carter-Williams' injury issues over the course of his young career.

Carter-Williams missed 12 games as a rookie and 16 contests in his second season. This is now the second time during the current campaign that he has been banged up as well. An ankle injury hampered the do-everything guard earlier in the season.

Losing Carter-Williams is a huge blow to the Bucks since the offense runs primarily through him when he's on the floor.

He possesses a varied skill set that allows him to contribute in a number of different areas, and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra believes he is similar to Bucks head coach Jason Kidd in that respect, per ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk:

"

He's certainly in the mold of Jason Kidd. You can see why they tried to acquire him. He has great size at that position, terrific vision, he makes other players better, you can play him in different areas in the court, he can play in the post, he can play in transition. And he's extremely disruptive defensively with his size and length.

"

Milwaukee doesn't have another player of Carter-Williams' ilk on the roster, but it does boast quite a bit of backcourt depth, which should allow it to get by and remain competitive for as long as he is on the shelf.

Jerryd Bayless and O.J. Mayo are quality players capable of handling the ball, and they can provide some quality minutes moving forward.

Losing a player like Carter-Williams is never easy; however, the Bucks are better equipped to survive it than most teams in the league.
