Survivor Series Tournament for New WWE Champion Adds Instant Intrigue to PPV
Wrestling is always a better place for fans when there are more questions than answers.
And as unfortunate as Seth Rollins' long-term injury is, it raises plenty of questions for WWE fans that will need answers in the immediate future.
When news broke of Rollins' injury suffered in Dublin earlier this week, the initial buzz was that WWE would opt for a tournament at Survivor Series to crown a new WWE world heavyweight champion:

Survivor Series was a pay-per-view that offered little to get excited about in a few weeks' time. However, Rollins' misfortune opens up the possibility for some genuine excitement and intrigue for one of the biggest shows of the year.
In fact, that tournament, presuming it still takes place and nothing too dramatic happens on Monday's Raw in England, could be the dominating and most alluring part of the show.
The elimination match with The Wyatt Family, The Undertaker and Kane will be of some interest, but it's what happens in this potential tournament that will make headlines.
Anything where the outcome is unclear—something that is increasingly rare in professional wrestling these days thanks to the Internet—always gets the attention of fans, as it adds more mystery to WWE storylines.
Providing there aren't too many spoilers leaking out as Survivor Series approaches, fans will be debating and discussing who's right for the honor of becoming world champion and who the likely contenders are. That alone creates buzz and hype for any show, so it's important for WWE to try to keep its information close to its chest. It will certainly be for its own benefit in terms of promoting the show.
You only have to look at the biggest swerves in recent history—how they were kept under wraps and how the crowd reacted when they occurred.
Also, the fact there aren't too many standout contenders to become world champion also makes this scenario intriguing. If we could confidently predict the final four in a potential tournament, this whole prospect would be boring.
Sure, Roman Reigns is the overwhelming favorite to win the title given how he was slated to fight Rollins to begin with, but there is intrigue about who could go all the way to the last four or the final.
Will WWE provide a twist and go for a real upcoming talent as world champion so early in his career? Is Kevin Owens or someone such as Finn Balor ready to go so close to the big prize?
Will there be a more established and household name getting a run as world champion? Could Cesaro or Dolph Ziggler get what would be, given their recent booking at least, a major push up the card?
Or is there a big return in store? Is Daniel Bryan ready to come back and become the face of the company once again?
What's important and interesting is that there are so many paths WWE can go down. Presuming things are kept quiet, it'll be a surprise that gives fans something to cherish and remember.
Survivor Series has had its fair share of surprises over the years. This year's event was looking a bit flat at one point, but now there is plenty of mystery and intrigue, which the pay-per-view so desperately needed.
