Dolph Ziggler Should Never Defeat Tyler Breeze During Initial Feud

Alfred KonuwaNov 4, 2015

Tyler Breeze has every reason to believe he won't work out.

WWE has had difficulties transitioning NXT talent to the main roster, especially over-the-top characters who gain ironic cult followings.

Adam Rose and Emma were abject disasters in WWE's more mainstream, comparatively uptight audience, despite becoming wildly popular in NXT. They were presented as lighthearted talents whose playful spirits took precedence over their in-ring abilities.

WWE hitched Emma's wagon to the comedic stylings of Santino Marella, while Rose eventually feuded with a bunny.

Now a member of the main roster like his peers before him, Breeze's comparisons to Fandango—from the ring gear to the alliance with Summer Rae—do not bode well for his future.

Like Fandango, however, Breeze can front-load his momentum with a strong wrestling feud against a respected name.

Fandango's feud against Chris Jericho led to one of the biggest upsets in history when the upstart dancer defeated the future WWE Hall of Famer at WrestleMania 29.

Not only can Breeze gain credibility with strong matches against Ziggler, but fans will learn to take him seriously if he scores a series of consecutive wins.

WWE's formula of booking does not lend itself to the type of breakout stars and dynasties that the promotion has thrived on in the past. But if WWE ever wants its young roster to go from transitional to viable, now is the time to do away with the concept of even-steven booking.

Exchanging wins and losses creates parity among wrestlers, and nobody stands out. For an unproven young star, parity might as well be apathy.

Breeze needs to establish himself as a threat right out of the gate. It will be too easy for fans, and WWE for that matter, to see him as a joke once he starts fading into the background. A feud where the younger, fresher star dominates a game Ziggler in the win-loss column will reverse the trend of the goofy NXT prospect failing on the big stage.

To validate the NXT brand, WWE needs to take a vested interest in protecting NXT alumni for as long as possible. NXT prides itself on taking over, but losing to an aging veteran in one's first month on the main roster isn't taking overit's falling in line.

Breeze can be every bit as successful as he was on NXT, but he needs wins to do so.
