Last Time Out
Douglas
In an exemplary performance, Douglas walked through Istvan Szili in three rounds. The 23-year-old's speed, power and punching accuracy proved to be too much as he dropped Szili three times before securing the victory. The win was Douglas' fourth straight since his majority draw with Michel Soro in July 2014.
The KO was his second straight and third in the last four fights.
Sherrington
Sherrington has been around the block a few times. The 33-year-old from Australia has bee a pro since 2002. In his last fight, he won a lopsided unanimous decision over Samir Santos Barbosa. Sherrington dominated the fight, but then again, he should have considering Barbosa has a record of just 36-13-3.
Sherrington hasn't faced top-notch competition throughout much of his career. The most recognizable name on his resume is Sam Soliman, but Sherrington lost that fight via ninth-round TKO. He might be battling some ring rust since his last bout took place almost a year ago.
Aside from that, Douglas is the most skilled young fighter Sherrington has ever faced. To a degree, simply going the distance would be an accomplishment for the Aussie.
What's at Stake?
Besides the secondary and vacant WBA and WBO international middleweight championships, there isn't much of a tangible reward for either fighter. Douglas would hate to lose any bouts—especially before he's able to secure a big payday in his career—but it would really be a blow to lose to a journeyman like Sherrington.
Douglas not only has to beat Sherrington, he needs to do it impressively.
Sherrington has nothing to lose. It's not as if there are people who believe he has a great chance to win on the road. Sherrington is literally playing with house money. It's a somewhat enviable position to be in for a fighter.
Prediction
Sherrington is made to order for Douglas. The Aussie likes to mix it up on the inside, but his power and chin are suspect. Six of Douglas' seven losses have come by TKO or KO. We'll be able to say seven out of eight after Friday night.
With Douglas aiming to impress, there's virtually nothing that can stop him from knocking Sherrington out. It would be a shock if this one gets past three rounds.
