Carl Frampton vs. Scott Quigg Fight Announced: Date, Location and Prediction

Rory MarsdenNov 2, 2015

Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg will finally meet for their eagerly-awaited unification clash at the Manchester Arena on February 27, 2016.

The news was announced by Sky Sports News HQ on Monday, putting to bed long-term speculation surrounding the duo.

Both currently unbeaten in their professional careers, the Bury-born Quigg (31-0-2) is currently the WBA (regular) super bantamweight champion, while Belfast's Frampton (21-0) is the IBF super bantamweight champion.

The confirmation comes as terrific news for British boxing fans, who have been calling out for the fight to happen for some time.

The 28-year-old Frampton has agreed to fight Quigg on his home turf and is clearly confident he can claim victory in Manchester, per Matchroom Boxing:

"

I’m delighted that we have finally got this fight signed. This is the fight everyone has wanted for years, none more so than myself. I’m the legitimate champion and I’m going to his backyard to defend my title because that’s what champions do. On February 27 the fans will find out who the real champion is, I’m going to win this fight in style.

"

For his part, Quigg, 27, insisted he will beat Frampton in every department on what is set to be a massive occasion for British boxing, per Matchroom Boxing.

The two fighters have looked impressive in recent bouts, with Frampton successfully defending his IBF title with a unanimous-decision victory over Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. in Texas in May.

Meanwhile, Quigg's most recent victim was Spain's Kiko Martinez, who was stopped in the pair's July clash at the Manchester Arena.

It is a very difficult fight to call, and Quigg will have the advantage of the home crowd. But Frampton should just edge what is set to be a mightily close fight.

Prediction: Frampton to win on unanimous decision.
