Hilarious Behind-the-Scenes Sports Moments
Some of the best, funniest moments in sports happen behind the scenesโin locker rooms, at practice or even at the airport.
In reality, one need look no further than World Series championย Salvador Perez's Instagram for a hilarious peek at the backstage of sports. But for those who want to see more than just one man's merciless and hysterical torment of Kansas City Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain, read on. There are pranks, miffed drills and, of course, a dancing coach (because no "hilarious sports" piece is complete without a dancing coach).
RKO Outta Nowhere
This is what happens when the Oklahoma drill goes WWE. According to Adam Silverstein of CBS Sports, two football teammates from Watford City High School turned the drill into Randy Orton's RKO at an October practice. Funny stuff. ย
Bob 'Yoda' Stoops
Dancing coaches are so common in locker rooms these days that the hilarity has been somewhat diluted. That's why Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops deserves props for his Halloween routine, preceded by a victory over Kansas and enhanced by a Star Wars Yoda mask.
Mikhail Prokhorov Dribbling
In September, Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov visited a team practice and proceeded to put on a wannabe Harlem Globetrotters-esque ball-handling show. There was dribbling, juggling and even pushups on basketballs (all of which can be seen in a series of Instagram videos compiled by Tom Ley of Deadspin).
Good stuff, but unless you play for the Charlotte Hornets, you probably don't need hoop lessons from the owner.
LeBron and Melo Can't Stop Laughing
Some of the NBA's biggest superstars come together to play for Team USA. At a practice in August, two of those superstars, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, got a good chuckle at the expense of teammate Russell Westbrook. All Westbrook did was muck up a drill, but the resulting laughter of his teammates was certainly infectious. ย
Chelsea Ice Water Prank
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may be on the hot seat amid early-season Premier League struggles, but the summer was a simpler time. In July, the club posted a video to Twitter of Mourinho pranking his players and the Chelsea staff at training. For the participants, it was a team-bonding exercise gone wrong. For everyone else, pure comedy.
Canes Catching Punts
The Miami Hurricanes football program posted a YouTube video of a practice drill in August. According to the caption, the scene depicts assistant athletic director Tom Symondsย participating in a punt-catching competition. He was the deciding factor, and his reaction was hysterical.
Marlins Play Fart Noises
Admittedly, the Washington Nationals' tendency to play love songs during opponents' batting practice is pretty funny. However, it's not as funny as what the Miami Marlins did to them. Per MASN reporter Dan Kolko, the Marlins played fart noises during Nats batting practice preceding a game in July. Immature? Of course. Still funny? Obviously.

Sammy Watkins' Catch Drill
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has an interesting way of practicing over-the-shoulder catches, as captured by Bills reporter Sal Capaccio. Now, that is certainly a legitimate skill to improve upon, but why is he sitting down? Good luck watching this without laughing.ย
Arsenal's Dizzy Penalties
The Dizzy Goals Challenge has been sweeping the soccer world, helping raise awareness for Global Goals, a nonprofit committed to fighting poverty, inequality and climate change.
Players from Real Madrid, Tottenham and others have all done their part, performing the hilarious task at recent practices. The attempts by Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta wereย particularly comical, and probably even more challenging given the wet conditions. And it's all for a good causeโeven better.
Georgia Dome Security Staff
Security chasing down on-field trespassers is usually a funny sight, but it's also pretty public. Still, you don't think those security guys would leave such an important task up to chance, do you?
The professionals at the Georgia Dome certainly don't.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean captured a delightful image of the stadium's security staff practicing the pursuit of such nuisances before a preseason NFL game in August. Talk about going above and beyond.
Jiri Hudler: Practice Invader
This one is a bit of a throwback, dating back to February 2014, but the hilarity is worth it. At the time, the Los Angeles Lakers and Calgary Flames were both in Philadelphia over the same weekend.
Here's the funny part. Flames center Jiri Hudler busted into the Lakers' Fridayย shootaround at the Wells Fargo Center wearing his full hockey gear. CSN caught the whole scene on tape, viewable hereย (via Yahoo). ย
Salvador Perez' Instagram
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez has a hilarious Instagram account in general, and a lot of behind-the-scenes gemsย areย included in his virtual antics. For instance, check out this one of Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain "getting his swole on," or this one of the now-retired Raul Ibanez showing off his dance moves in the clubhouse.
Here, Perez is again harassing Cain on a baggage claim carousel. Classic.
