Getafe vs. Barcelona: Score and Reaction from 2015 La Liga Match

Rob BlanchetteOct 31, 2015

Barcelona cruised to a 2-0 win over Getafe in La Liga on Saturday night, keeping up their chase at the top of the Spanish league table.

Goals from Luis Suarez and Neymar claimed the points on offer in what was an elementary night for the Camp Nou giants.

Javier Mascherano missed out for the visitors as he served a ban, but Sergi Roberto recovered to take his place in the Barca midfield. Lionel Messi was still missing due to injury, and Andres Iniesta took a place on the bench among manager Luis Enrique's substitutes.

Getafe's Carlos Vigaray was absent due to suspension, and Alvaro Medran and Alvaro Vazquez were both ruled out with injuries.

Barca controlled the match from the early stages, with the home team sinking backward as Enrique's men played with panache.

The treble winners were not at their most fluid, but Roberto showed his value in the midfield channels as Barca attempted to slip through the gears.

Football writer Rafael Hernandez highlighted the Blaugrana's lack of early penetration as Getafe showed little resistance:

Barcelona finally made the breakthrough late in the second half as Suarez struck with deadly precision to take the lead. Neymar clipped a cross into the box that was expertly laid off by Roberto to the Uruguayan, and he made no mistake in finding a finish.

Roberto was the star of the first half. He danced and glided through the midfield, looking like a true Barcelona midfielder. Hernandez paid the player a glowing tribute and took a swipe at Neymar in the process:

Football writer Sid Lowe also commented on the 23-year-old Spaniard—who has worked his way through the Barcelona system—and refused to acknowledge previous criticisms of the player:

WhoScored.com supplied the vital stats at half-time, which showed Barca retained an incredible amount of possession:

Getafe continued to see little of the ball in the second half but managed a few attacks in Barcelona territory as they looked to steal an equaliser.

However, it was Barca who doubled their lead shortly before the hour mark as Neymar once again linked with the brilliant Roberto. The Spaniard curled a beautiful ball to the far post from deep and wide, and Neymar was on hand to finish like a predatory striker.

The Mirror's Ed Malyon called the action for Barca's second of the night:

The champions continued to pile forward in the closing stages as Jordi Alba streaked down the left side unchallenged on countless occasions.

After his substitution, Roberto was applauded for an excellent appearance.

Barca cantered out the final minutes as the points were in the bag and guaranteed. Enrique will be pleased with the solid display against a side who have rarely conceded at home this term.

The Blaugrana return to their Catalan home with a 2-0 result, and they will be satisfied to stay in touch with Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga.

Post-Match Reaction

Enrique was delighted with Barca's display and talked about the domination his men showed against Getafe, per the club's official Twitter account:

Getafe next feature in La Liga when they travel to Eibar on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Barca play the following day, hosting Villarreal in a crunch tie at the Camp Nou.
