WWE Survivor Series 2015: Feuds That Will Increase Excitement for Event

James MoffatNov 2, 2015

WWE Survivor Series 2015 is the 25th anniversary of The Undertaker's debut in WWE. It isn't surprising that WWE is marking the occasion with a match featuring The Deadman.

What is surprising is how wisely WWE Creative has begun to build said match.

Adding The Undertaker is a surefire way to increase excitement for any card, but WWE has to be careful booking a 50-year-old Superstar in any match, especially following the slugfest 'Taker and Brock Lesnar had at Hell in a Cell.

That's why WWE Creative should be given credit for its smart booking leading into WWE Survivor Series 2015. Placing The Phenom in a traditional Survivor Series tag team elimination match allows multiple Superstars to help carry the load.

Allowing speculation to run rampant as to whom Undertaker will go to war with at Survivor Series against The Wyatt Family is great theater. While including Kane and reuniting The Brothers of Destruction is a logical step, there's any number of ways WWE Creative can go in filling out the remaining slots.

Does WWE go with reliable Superstars such as Dean Ambrose and Ryback, both of whom have history with The Wyatt Family? Is Sting healthy enough following Night of Champions to join The Deadman and possibly set up a WrestleMania 32 match? Will fans see the main roster debut of an NXT star such as Baron Corbin or Finn Balor?

There are a number of ways WWE can go with three weeks before the event. Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson at Hell in a Cell: Saving the surprise until the very last moment (a la Alberto Del Rio's return to face John Cena) is a surefire way to generate excitement until the minute the bell rings.

Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns will finally get his chance to become world heavyweight champion, a title that's eluded him for the better part of a year.

The Internet Wrestling Community likes to argue that Reigns has been pushed too hard by WWE, but is that really the case? Since Seth Rollins won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, he's defended the belt one-on-one against Kane (twice), Neville, Randy Orton (three times), Dean Ambrose (twice), John Cena and Sting.

Roman Reigns isn't on that list. He's never fought for the title in a singles match:

WWE should play up this story, reminding fans that Reigns' title shots were derailed not once, but twice; first by Rollins at WrestleMania 31, then by Bray Wyatt at this year's Money in the Bank pay-per-view. WWE Creative should let Rollins be the one to remind fans of Reigns' failures.

This would serve two purposes. First, it would continue to keep Reigns a sympathetic figure, giving heat to the top heel in the company for bringing up his challenger's shortcomings. Second, it keeps Reigns off the microphone, which is not his strongest attribute.

One direction WWE should not head in this feud is dipping too far into The Shield storyline or having Reigns rehash the same arguments Cena did during his feud with Rollins over the summer.

It would be lazy storytelling and would do more to push the critiques from a certain segment of fans that Roman Reigns is nothing more than John Cena 2.0.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Tyler Breeze

WWE's treatment of Breeze since his main roster debut on the Oct. 22 episode of Smackdown has been wonderfully booked.

Allowing the WWE Universe to get a feel for Breeze's character before putting him in the ring has been the right way to go. NXT fans have savored the Superstar's gimmick and his commitment to that role for two years. It helps that Breeze is quite adept in the ring, too.

Placing him in a feud with Ziggler to begin his main roster career is another smart move by WWE Creative. As B/R's Ryan Dilbert wrote, the company could have placed him in squash matches or started a program with R-Truth or Bo Dallas, non-threatening Superstars who would have done nothing to boost Breeze's credibility.

Instead, Breeze will have the chance to work with a Superstar who can help guide him through his main roster transition. It helps that Ziggler is a great ring worker who can help sell Breeze as a legitimate threat.

To keep the interest level high, WWE needs to continue its current path with Breeze's character. Play up the personal VIP section bit during Ziggler matches. Continue run-ins and beatdowns for both wrestlers, allowing Ziggler to get the upper hand in some instances. Let Summer Rae do the talking for Breeze in the short-term; she's earned the opportunity to do so after flourishing in a terrible storyline with Rusev.

A smartly booked feud between these two leading to a match at Survivor Series could lead to a show-stealing performance. These two could even be part of a traditional Survivor Series tag team elimination match and fans would be interested, so long as WWE Creative continues to follow the steps it's taken thus far with the feud.
