Monday Recap

City produced an excellent performance at Aldershot to condemn Chelsea to their second defeat of the season and see the Blues drop down to 10th in Division 1.

Bersant Celina opened the scoring for the visitors with a fine free-kick after 20 minutes, the 19-year-old curling a sweet finish right into the corner of the net.

City goalkeeper Ian Lawlor was called into action a number of times as Chelsea searched for the equaliser, but the Blues just could not get past him.

Eventually it was City who wrapped up the three points as Thierry Ambrose fired home following a rapid counter-attack for his side's second 10 minutes from time.

He was clearly delighted to have sealed the win for the Sky Blues:

United were less accomplished in their victory, but they were resolute in keeping out Sunderland before substitute Tyler Reid found the crucial winner with 15 minutes remaining.

The Red Devils did little to trouble the hosts going forward in the first half and Sunderland should have led at the break. Mikael Mandron and Liam Agnew had their chances but could not find the back of the net.

United offered more in the second half as Timothy Fosu-Mensah and James Weir carved out decent chances.

Sunderland's Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone leaves the field at the final whistle during the English League Cup third round football match between Sunderland and Manchester City at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, northest England, on September 22, 20

Reid finally broke the deadlock on 75 minutes, latching on to a long ball and poking a finish past Vito Mannone.

It proved to be the decisive moment of the game as United claimed a second consecutive victory and moved up into seventh place in the league table.

Monday's most convincing winners in Division 1 were Middlesbrough, who thrashed Leicester City 4-0 at the Victoria Ground.

Harry Chapman opened the scoring with a cracking 20-yard strike after seven minutes, before Robbie Tinkler headed home a corner to double the lead 12 minutes later.

Second-half efforts from Andre Bennett and Bradley Fewster made it a very comfortable night for Boro in their first victory of the season.

Elsewhere in Division 1, Everton claimed an impressive 2-0 away win at Southampton thanks to goals either side of half-time from David Henen and Harry Charsley.

Meanwhile Reading moved up into second place in the league, two points back from Sunderland, after a 2-0 win over Norwich City at the Madejski Stadium.
