Barnidge Comments on Recovery
Wednesday, June 8
Barnidge told reporters he went under the knife to fix a "lingering" issue that was "gradually getting worse. The tight end added that he planned on being healthy prior to training camp.
"I'll be ready to go," Barnidge said."
Barnidge Coming Off of Breakout Season
The 30-year-old was a revelation amid a career year in 2015. Despite losing Pro Bowler Jordan Cameron in free agency, Cleveland didn't have to worry about production from the tight end spot in the passing game thanks to Barnidge's meteoric rise. He finished with 79 catches for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns.
E.J. Bibbs could receive a shot to contribute more frequently early in camp, but he was scarcely used last year. Randall Telfer, Connor Hamlett and rookie J.P. Holtz should also see extra snaps with the first team until the team's starter is cleared for full participation.
Although the early timetable suggests Barnidge should be ready for camp, the Browns won't rush him to make sure he meets that date. As long as he's back to full strength before the regular season starts, it will be good news for the Browns offense.
