Manchester United Transfer News: Thomas Muller Opens Up on Red Devils Rumours
Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller has dismissed rumours linking him with a potential reunion with former coach Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, admitting that despite there not being "any guarantees in football," he is happy to remain with the Bundesliga champions.
The Germany World Cup winner spoke to Rob Draper of the Mail On Sunday and commented on Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's declaration the player "represents the heart" of the Bavarian team:
"I heard what Rummenigge said and it’s nice for me to hear it. There are never any guarantees in football but I do have a four-year contract and when I go on the pitch and hear fans shout my name, that’s something special.
...
The club, as Rummenigge showed, denied it [the link to United] straight away, so it’s not up for discussion.

Muller spoke at length to Draper about Van Gaal, giving insight into the revered Dutch coach's methods and philosophy. LvG gave the player his breakthrough at Munich, grooming the talented youngster for success, giving him the self confidence to become a world-class player.
He also commented on Rummenigge's quip that he's asked United supremo Ed Woodward to stop sending him emails about his striker's availability, with Muller saying, per Draper: "That was well said. I had to laugh about that. It was good."

United continue their hunt to add top players to their squad, but they are unlikely to get the chance to accrue the elite of world football until the summer transfer window.
However, with Van Gaal planning on retiring from football management in 2017, as confirmed by Sky Sports News, it will be difficult for United to lure players to Old Trafford under the proviso of working directly with the current boss.
Football writer Clark Whitney believes Bayern will never sell their talent to the English club:
Muller is the type of player the Red Devils desire—one who can lead United's front line as the influence of Wayne Rooney decreases with every passing month.
The 26-year-old can play all of the positions Rooney does, including No. 9 and No. 10, as well as an auxiliary midfielder. He also brings plenty of goals with his skill set, already scoring 11 times in 12 Bundesliga and Champions League matches this term, according to WhoScored.com.
Like many top players do in the modern age, Muller inserted the caveat that there are no guarantees in football, leaving a move away from Germany as a possibility in future.

If former team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger has a good experience in his first 12 months at Old Trafford, and Van Gaal publicly denounces his retirement plans, there would be little surprise if Muller has a change of heart, despite his most recent admission.
United will need to have a convincing display in the Champions League this season if they really want to buy the best in 2016, and the planning for marquee squad development will have already begun.
LvG has a long-term interest in Gareth Bale, as reported by the Express' John Richardson in August, and with the player's links with primary sponsor Adidas, it would make sense for United to stand by—and watch for developments within Real Madrid's roulette-table transfer policy.
For now, the likes of Muller and Bale are just a dream for United fans, but the club have displayed they can sign the best when signing Angel Di Maria from the Spanish capital.
