Louis van Gaal's Media Conduct Questioned by Frank de Boer

Rory MarsdenOct 15, 2015

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has questioned the aggressive style used by Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal when he deals with the media.

De Boer enjoyed success playing under Van Gaal at Ajax, Barcelona and with the Netherlands national side.

He is insistent that his compatriot is "one of the best trainers in the world" but clearly does not think much of Van Gaal's media management, per Omnisport (via MailOnline's Luke Augustus): "That is not my cup of tea how he always tries to fight with the press. I think sometimes you have to let it rest and don't make an issue about it. But he doesn't like if somebody isn't fair against him and he will try to attack them with words if they are not honest."

Van Gaal has become renowned for his entertaining, if often fiery, press conferences since taking over the reins at Old Trafford in the summer of 2014.

Earlier this season, following a 2-1 Premier League loss to Swansea City, he walked out of the post-match conference after being questioned over his transfer policy, per Kevin Garside in the Independent.

He is nothing if not entertaining, and he refuted claims in September that he did not have the backing of the United fans by singing his own song, per Football Tweet:

Van Gaal's side stuttered their way to fourth place in his debut season in charge at Old Trafford.

But they have made a decent start to the new Premier League season, briefly spending time at the top of the table before losing 3-0 to Arsenal last time out.

The Dutchman needs to make sure his players are back and focused again after the international break ahead of their trip to Everton on Saturday, which Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson sees as a potential banana skin for the Red Devils:

With defending champions Chelsea experiencing an appalling start to the season and Manchester City and Arsenal showing some patchy form, United could make a genuine tilt at the title this season.

They are far from favourites to win it—the table-topping Sky Blues are definitely the front-runners—but a top-two finish is certainly a possibility.

Van Gaal was brought in following the doomed David Moyes era to reestablish United among Europe's elite and as title challengers.

While he may rub the media up the wrong way sometimes, he seems to slowly but surely be building a title-winning team at Old Trafford, and that is all the fans will care about.
