Solder Placed on IR
Wednesday, Oct. 14
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Patriots placed Solder on the injured reserve with a torn bicep. A source said the tackle will have surgery, Jim McBride of the Boston Globe reported.
Ed Werder of ESPN reported Marcus Cannon will likely be taking his place at left tackle.
Solder's Injury Is Major Blow to Patriots O-Line
Cannon took Solder's place at the start of the second half while New England gradually pulled away from Dallas, but the long-term injury is concerning for the defending champions. Solder is a former first-round pick out of Colorado, and he played all 16 games in three of the last four years for New England and appeared in 15 games in 2013.
His durability has proved critical for an offensive line that is tasked with keeping Tom Brady healthy and the Patriots' Super Bowl hopes alive every Sunday. Solder struggled blocking Greg Hardy in their individual matchup, but that likely says more about Hardy's athleticism than anything else.
New England will miss Solder up front as it attempts to defend its title.
