College Football Rankings 2015: Week 6 AP and Amway Standings Revealed
Once again, the first weekend of October took what we thought we knew about the 2015 college football season and threw it out of the window.
Last week's top two teams in the nation—both from the Big Ten—stayed unbeaten against heavily outmatched opposition but just by the skin of their teeth. Others weren't so lucky, as Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Georgia all lost as Top 10 teams.
Along with sudden rises from others who have come out of nowhere to threaten for a run at the College Football Playoff, perception has changed at an incredible rate from before the weekend.
That's all illustrated in the brand-new Top 25 polls, as you can see the latest standings from the Associated Press, Amway Coaches and Bleacher Report below.
So, where do we even begin?
At the top works, especially considering there's no single upset to point toward with so many surprising outcomes in Week 5. Even there it's not pretty, as Ohio State needed a superhuman effort from Ezekiel Elliott and a late defensive stand to hold off Indiana, 34-27.
Voters from the AP and coaches polls didn't seem too fazed by the Buckeyes' near defeat, but the lost style points certainly weighed on the B/R college football analysts who dropped head coach Urban Meyer's squad two spots down to No. 3.
Joining OSU in the ugly-victory department was Michigan State, who barely held off Purdue, 24-21. The Spartans lost plenty of respect in the polls in the process, especially after the win over Oregon has lost some shine.
However, ESPN's Mike Greenberg said a win is a win:
Past the Big Ten duo is where the bombs really started going off. It began with the previously third-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, who stepped into the Swamp as touchdown favorites and left licking their wounds in a 38-10 defeat to Florida.

The Gators put it on quarterback Chad Kelly and the Ole Miss offense, which came as a shock to anyone following college football this season, as Tim Reynolds of AP appropriately noted:
Deservedly so, the Gators were the biggest risers in the polls after coming in as a No. 25 team in the AP poll stemming from their comeback over Tennessee the week prior. But they're not the only surprise team threatening for CFP hype.
Also present in that discussion are the Utah Utes, who had probably the most productive bye week of all time. Sitting at home after their 62-20 demolition of Oregon last week, Utah saw Top 10 teams fall like flies and rose to the Top Five.
Utah will get the national spotlight and another test to its championship chances with ESPN's College GameDay coming to town:
On a less shocking note, the then-No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs were housed in their home building by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The loss dropped head coach Mark Richt's squad from a championship contender to one that will have to hope for a rebound in the SEC East.
As for the Crimson Tide, it could be a turnaround win for their season after the early defeat to Ole Miss, as ESPN's Paul Finebaum noted:
When it comes down to it, though, Week 5 produced more questions than answers.
Before Saturday, most college football followers had a strong idea of the top teams from each conference. After the first big conference weekend, a lot of that was discarded and scrapped away.
I mean, who predicted Florida to be perhaps the SEC's best team? Or Ohio State and Michigan State to struggle so mightily with subpar Big Ten teams? Or Utah to be the top-ranked Pac-12 team?
So far in 2015, parity has stricken college football and made things a bit more interesting than they seemed weeks ago. We'll have to wait and see if the results from Saturday were a sign of things to come or somewhat of an aberration.
