Jose Mourinho, John Terry and Roman Abramovich Ripped by Comedian Alan Davies

Matt JonesSep 29, 2015

Comedian Alan Davies has launched an extraordinary rant at Chelsea Football Club, isolating Jose Mourinho, John Terry and owner Roman Abramovich for particularly scathing criticism.

Davis was speaking on an Arsenal podcast called The Tuesday Club when he embarked on his tirade, as reported by Anthony Hay of the MailOnline. Abramovich was initially the target of his attack:

"

Of all the reprehensible scumbags masquerading as talent successful stars in their field, you have to start with Abramovich.

Now, he is the billionaire with yachts and legit business interests and helicopters, and the grim reality of the blood-stained gold rush that was the break-up of the former USSR, the handing over of huge state utilities, of the right to print money to oligarchs, to keep them out of western business hands.

There are no bodies buried, make no mistake. But now, he cruises clear in ugly legitimacy in needy London, where we'll sell anything to any dubious foreign national, without asking what crimes or human rights violations they committed to amass their sickening wealth.

Davies went on to describe manager Mourinho as a “walking narcissistic personality disorder” and the club captain, Terry, as a “racist criminal.” Though he was cleared in court, the FA gave Terry a four-game ban and a £220,000 fine after it found him guilty of using racist language in 2012, per the Guardian.

The comic was also critical of Diego Costa after his antics in the clash against Arsenal, branding the Chelsea centre-forward a “sociopathic violent thug.”

Davies then claimed the club is “rotten from the top all the way down to its racist fans pushing black people off tubes.” Footage emerged of Chelsea supporters not letting a black commuter on the Paris metro earlier in the year while singing racist songs, per the Guardian.

“This is far more than a s--t club with no history,” Davies rounded off. “This is a stain of football, on London, on humanity.”

The clash between Chelsea and Arsenal earlier this month was an ill-tempered affair, as the Gunners were reduced to nine men in a 2-0 triumph for the champions. Costa was regularly winding up his markers, prompting a reaction from Gabriel Paulista, who was subsequently sent off; the Blues striker picked up a retrospective three-match ban for his behaviour.

It's fair to say, despite the bitter rivalry between the two teams, it’s not an assessment of Chelsea that all Arsenal supporters agree with, including broadcaster Piers Morgan:

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Blues, made even worse by a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday at the hands of Mourinho’s former club Porto. Arsenal also endured a setback in the Champions League after their win over Leicester City at the weekend, suffering a shock 3-2 loss at home to Greek side Olympiakos.

It’s not the first time Davies has rubbed football fans up the wrong way. Back in 2012 the comic criticised Liverpool for not playing on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 supporters lost their lives. He also claimed the owners of Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were “vermin” and “scum of the earth” in the same rant.
