Freeman Becomes 5th Falcons RB to Rush for 100 Yards, 3 Touchdowns

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 29, 2015

Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman turned in the best performance of his young career in Sunday's 39-28 win over the Dallas Cowboys, becoming just the fifth running back in franchise history to rush for 100 or more yards with three or more rushing touchdowns in the same game, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The feat was last accomplished by an Atlanta running back in 2010, when Michael Turner rumbled for 112 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in a 31-10 Week 14 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Freeman was even more impressive in Sunday's game, putting up 141 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries, with another 52 yards on five receptions.

Despite recording no more than 12 carries in each of his first 18 NFL games, Freeman became the first Falcons player since Turner (also in 2010) to hit the 30-carry barrier in a regular-season contest, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

Freeman's heavy workload was largely due to the absence of rookie running back Tevin Coleman, who missed Sunday's game with broken ribs and may miss a Week 4 matchup with the Houston Texans.

Freeman should see plenty of touches if Coleman misses another game, but the yards will be much tougher to come by against a Houston defense led by superstar defensive end J.J. Watt.
