Mariota Throws Multiple Touchdown Passes for 3rd Straight Game

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 29, 2015

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota threw a pair of touchdown passes in a 35-33 Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, becoming just the third signal-caller in NFL history to start his career with three consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).

The other two players to accomplish the feat were Mark Rypien for the 1986 Washington Redskins and Jay Cutler for the 2006 Denver Broncos.

Although his team is only 1-2, Mariota has an astounding stat line for a rookie, having completed 61 of his 97 pass attempts (62.9 percent) for 833 yards (8.6 yards per attempt), with eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.

To be fair, he has also lost three fumbles and taken 12 sacks, which explains why he ranks a modest 20th (out of 33 qualified players) in ESPN's Total QBR statistic (50.6).

Of course, 20th is still pretty good for a rookie, especially considering that fellow 2015 first-round draft pick Jameis Winston ranks 27th (43.5).

Selected one spot ahead of Mariota with the first overall pick, Winston has completed just 47 of his 90 pass attempts (52.2 percent) for 678 yards (7.5 yards per attempt), with four touchdowns, three interceptions, three lost fumbles and seven sacks.
