Lockett Sets Seahawks Record for Longest Return Touchdown

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 29, 2015

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett set a franchise record for the longest kickoff return during Sunday's 26-0 win over the Chicago Bears, taking a kick back 105 yards for a touchdown to open the second half, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Selected in the third round (69th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft, the rookie out of Kansas State made waves in the preseason, scoring a trio of long touchdowns on a punt return, a kickoff return and a reception.

Lockett then carried his success into the regular season, breaking off a 57-yard punt return touchdown in Seattle's 34-31 Week 1 overtime loss to the St. Louis Rams, and also catching all four of his targets for 34 yards.

Following a quiet performance in a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Lockett was back at it in Week 3, with his touchdown giving the Seahawks a 13-0 lead just 12 seconds into the second half.

The touchdown wasn't his only contribution on special teams, as Lockett was an effective decoy on a trick play during the first quarter, allowing Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman to rumble 64 yards on a punt return while the Bears' coverage team thought Lockett was fielding the ball.

Despite catching just six passes for 51 yards on seven targets through three games, Lockett has arguably had the largest impact of any rookie wideout, although Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper would probably disagree.

Just three games into his career, Lockett has already joined Nate Burleson (2007) as the only players in Seahawks history to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in the same season, per Danny O'Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle.
