FC Porto vs. Chelsea: Team News, Predicted Lineups, Live Stream, TV Info

Garry HayesSep 28, 2015

After Chelsea's stuttering form continued at the weekend, Jose Mourinho will be looking for a reaction from his players as they switch attention to the Champions League with a trip to Portugal to face Porto on Tuesday.

We hear it said so often that football is a game of two halves and the Premier League champions were the cliche personified against Newcastle United.

Woeful in the first 45 minutes at St. James' Park, they eventually turned things around after the break to claw their way back into the game and draw 2-2.

It took great character to achieve that, but Mourinho is seemingly more concerned with how his team trailed by two goals in the first place, rather than how they battled back.

It's led to him to send out a very public warning that nobody is free from the axe should their bad start to the season continue.

Mourinho explained in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday's match-up with Porto:

"

To be untouchable you have to be consistent. You have to be a fantastic player but you have to be consistent.

We have fantastic players, the players who gave us the title last season, no doubts about it, but football is about today, not about yesterday.

In football you have to be consistent in your performance, consistent in your emotion. To be a winner you don’t need to win all the time—you lose, you cannot win all the time—but you need a strong mentality every game, every day.

In this moment I don’t have untouchables.

"

We saw a fortnight ago how Chelsea bounced back from domestic disappointment to start their Champions League campaign in emphatic style with victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Mourinho's men were dominant on Matchday 1, as the 4-0 scoreline suggested.

GELSENKIRCHEN, GERMANY - MAY 26: Nuno Valente of FC Porto hugs his manager Jose Dos Santos Mourinho after winning the Champions League during the UEFA Champions League Final match between AS Monaco and FC Porto at the AufSchake Arena on May 26, 2004 in G

But that was against a team with whom it was expected. Now Chelsea must prove they are capable of doing the same against their main rival for top spot in Group G.

Porto may not have the same calibre as some of Europe's big guns, but they will offer a challenge nonetheless. It's one Chelsea cannot fail.

Mourinho visited the Porto museum on Monday, recounting his success with the club in 2004 when he lifted the Champions League trophy with them.

"For me, it's the kind of visit that makes my opponent's heart a bit softer and I have now to go to the hotel and make it hard again, because tomorrow I have a big game," he said.

Mourinho can focus on his emotions, but the Chelsea players will do well to refocus their minds.

Last Five Games

While Chelsea linger in the bottom half of the Premier League, struggling for find form and consistency, Porto are having no such problems.

They top the Portuguese Liga, with goal difference separating them and Sporting. Benfica are two points behind in third.

Porto are undefeated in their opening six games of the season, drawing their match with Dynamo Kiev on Matchday 1 in the Champions League.

Predicted Line-ups

Thibaut Courtois is a long-term absentee for Chelsea, but Diego Costa's domestic suspension doesn't stretch to the Champions League, meaning he is likely to return.

Leading goalscorer Vincent Aboubakar went off injured at half-time in Porto's 2-2 with Moreirense and is expected to miss out.

If he does, it will be a big blow for the home side given that he scored twice on Matchday 1 against Dynamo Kiev.

Porto (4-3-3): Casillas; Pereira, Maicon, Marcano, Layun; Danilo, Herrera, Andre; Corona, Osvaldo, Brahimi

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Begovic; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Rahman; Matic, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Costa

Players to watch

Jesus Corona

Porto's Mexican forward Jesus Corona (L) vies with Moreirense's Brazilian defender Marcelo Oliveira during the Portuguese league football match Moreirense FC vs FC Porto at the Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas stadium in Moreira de Conegos on Spetemb

Those Chelsea fans with an exceptional memory will remember Corona turning out for Monterrey against the Blues in the 2012 FIFA Club World Club.

Chelsea won that game 3-1, knocking the Mexican side out of the competition to reach the final.

Since that time, Corona has become known for a whole lot more. He moved to FC Twente in Holland soon after the Club World Cup, joining Porto this summer.

In his first three league games in Portugal, the Mexican has notched three goals—including one against Moreirense on Friday—and already looks a smart bit of business.

He can play wide or through the middle and will cause Chelsea plenty of problems.

Diego Costa

Chelsea's Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa waves as he arrives for a training session at Chelsea's training ground in Stoke D'Abernon, south of London, on September 28, 2015, on the eve of their UEFA Champions League Group G football match again

He's set to be back in the Chelsea line-up and we can expect Costa to make headlines in Porto.

Mourinho will be hoping it's for all the right reasons, though, showcasing his ability as one of the deadliest strikers in Europe.

If Costa can channel his frustration at his domestic ban—he has one more game to serve—then Chelsea will benefit immensely.

He scored in the 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv on Matchday 1 and his teammates will be looking to Costa to add to that tally and help continue their positive start in Europe.

After the 2-2 draw with a poor Newcastle side on Saturday, Chelsea need to get back to winning ways to help keep the momentum they have picked up in recent games.

Costa will be a key part of that.
