Korver 1 of 3 Hawks to Get Medical Clearance
Monday, Sept. 21
Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Korver, forward Thabo Sefolosha and guard Shelvin Mack have received varying degrees of medical clearance.
“I would say, to differing degrees, they are doing basketball activities now,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said, per Vivlamore. “Whether it’s some 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 between now and camp there is the potential for some 5-on-5 in a limited kind of way. But shooting, working out and doing those types of things, they are making good progress.”
Korver, 34, missed the final two games of the Eastern Conference Finals due to a right ankle injury. He also had offseason surgery on his elbow. Considered by many the league's premier three-point threat, Korver averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game last season. He shot 49.2 percent from three-point range, shattering his previous career best for effective field goal percentage (67.1) in the process.
The Hawks will be even more reliant on Korver in 2015-16 after losing DeMarre Carroll to Toronto in free agency. Korver will need to assume a more consistent defensive role at age 34 and will likely slide over to small forward when he shares the floor with Kent Bazemore or Tim Hardaway Jr.
After largely sticking to the shooting guard spot with Sefolosha and Carroll around, it'll be interesting to see if Korver's efficiency suffers against bigger defenders.
