WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for September 21

Ryan DilbertSep 21, 2015

The controversy and chaos that marked Night of Champions bleeds into the Sept. 21 edition of WWE Raw.

Seth Rollins managed to survive the night with the WWE title still in his grasp, but he now has a masked monster to contend with. Kevin Owens cheated his way to his first Intercontinental Championship, a result certain to have Ryback seething and in search of a rematch.

Monday's Raw also promises to provide the follow-up to Charlotte dethroning Nikki Bella, John Cena regaining the United States Championship and The New Day taking the cheap way out in their title match on Sunday.

Laredo, Texas, plays hosts as WWE tries to combat stagnant ratings despite going up against Monday Night Football again. Will having Kane back in a prominent spot only worsen those numbers?

Backstage reports, James Wortman's five-point preview on WWE.com and hints from elsewhere provide a good idea of what to expect on the post-Night of Champions Raw.

News, Potential Spoilers

Sting's status is uncertain. It appears that his title match with Rollins left him hobbled.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc), Sting suffered an injury during Sunday's main event. He noted, "It was serious and to the neck."

Longtime pro wrestling journalist Mike Mooneyham echoed Meltzer's report:

Sting took a hard bump through a table before later collapsing in the ring. It wasn't clear at the time whether that was part of the storyline, but it now appears that The Icon was legitimately hurt.

However, PWInsider (h/t Wrestling Inc) reports that WWE has changed its plans and has booked Sting for Monday's Raw.

Night of Champions featured the return of both Kane and Chris Jericho. Could we potentially see Wade Barrett get back in the ring as well?

Barrett had been away working on a movie. However, he tweeted a photo of him and the film's crew post-wrap:

Perhaps the biggest issue with Barrett making a surprise appearance on Monday's Raw, however, is that Barrett was still in the United Kingdom over the weekend. His Twitter feed is filled with photos of him attending a football game in his home country.

James Caldwell noted on Pro Wrestling Torch that the announced talent for Monday's Raw includes Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Sheamus, The New Day and The Dudley Boyz.

Brock Lesnar and Undertaker, despite WWE announcing at Night of Champions that those two will be battling at Hell in a Cell, are not on the list.

Night of Champions Fallout

Charlotte heads into Laredo holding a prize that Nikki had in her possession longer than any woman in WWE history. She celebrated in the ring after her gutsy win by embracing her PCB teammates and sharing a tearful hug with her Hall of Fame father.

What's next for the new champ? Will Paige or Becky Lynch grow jealous of her? Will Nikki demand a rematch right away?

Whatever happens, it appears that Charlotte is assured some airtime on Monday night. In his preview on WWE.com, Wortman wrote, "How will Charlotte commemorate her first 24 hours as Divas Champion? We'll find out on Raw."

Like Charlotte, Kevin Owens scored a title victory at Night of Champions. His came via a cheaper route, though. After scratching Ryback's eyes, the bruiser rolled up his foe for the win.

That has to have Ryback in a foul mood on Monday night. Wortman hinted at that inevitability in his Raw preview. He asked, "Will Ryback come to Raw with intent to feast on the newly crowned champion?"

Cena is the only new champion not likely to have to deal with the previous titleholder. Rollins will be busy contending with Kane. Cena, meanwhile, may be returning to issuing open challenges.

Wortman seemed to point to that when he asked, "Now that Cena has reclaimed Old Glory, will he defend it tonight?" In addition, Cena potentially teased a title match for Monday's Raw. In a backstage interview after Night of Champions, he said, "My hard work just started. We're going to get after it tomorrow."

If "get after it" means to defend the U.S. title against the first man to take him up on the offer, then fans can be assured another quality match. The previous open challenges have often been the highlight of Raw.

As for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, it may be Kane who next gets a crack at it. He stormed back onto the scene on Sunday night, chokeslamming both Rollins and Sheamus.

In what was perhaps a hint that the big man will be seeking the WWE title, Wortman wrote, "Is he satisfied after giving Rollins a chokeslam and a Tombstone Piledriver at Night of Champions, or might Kane have loftier aspirations on his twisted mind?"

As uninterested as many fans may be by the prospect of Rollins facing Kane, it sure looks to be the plan WWE has laid out.
