Mamadou Sakho, Liverpool Agree to New Contract: Latest Details and Reaction
Just one day after putting together an impressive performance for Liverpool against Bordeaux in the UEFA Europa League, centre-back Mamadou Sakho put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2020.
The Reds announced the news via their official website, with the 25-year-old expressing his delight at committing himself to the project at Anfield:
"I am very happy to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool because, as I’ve always said, I am very happy here and my family are happy in Liverpool.
I will keep working because I am a Liverpool soldier and when Liverpool need me, I try to give my best. I am happy to stay as a Scouser!
I work all the time 100 per cent, I try to stay professional and I give my best for this city and this club.

The Frenchman hasn't been a part of manager Brendan Rodgers' usual starting XI so far this season, but he was surprisingly handed the captain's armband on Thursday, an indication that's bound to change.
Sakho looked comfortable in the 1-1 draw against Bordeaux and drew praise from his manager after the match, via Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo:
The Daily Mail's Dominic King thought it was very likely he'd keep his spot in the starting XI for the Premier League match against Norwich City as well:
Liverpool have struggled defensively early in the 2015-16 campaign, with the duo of Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren looking shaky at best. They've conceded six goals in five Premier League matches so far, and that's just too much for a side looking to break into next year's Champions League.
Sakho's new contract indicates Rodgers is planning on giving him the chance to start some Premier League fixtures, as one has to assume the Frenchman received those guarantees before signing. He won't break into the France squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 tournament by only playing in cup matches and the Europa League, after all.
