Seabrook and the Blackhawks had been working toward a new deal for a while, with reports of them nearing an agreement surfacing as early as Sept. 17, per the Chicago Tribune's Chris Kuc

In an offseason of uncertainty and change after winning their third Stanley Cup in six seasons, bringing back the veteran Seabrook, who has been a part of each championship team, is a welcome sight for Blackhawks fans.

In the past two months, salary-cap issues forced the Blackhawks to part ways with the likes of Patrick Sharp, Brandon Saad and Johnny Oduya, key players during their run to the Cup.

Add that to Patrick Kane's off-the-ice issues, per the Chicago Tribune's Jared S. Hopkins and Stacy St. Clair, and the Blackhawks were in need of some good news.

The team got just that with the extension of Seabrook, who has been instrumental to Chicago's dynasty. During its Cup run last season, Seabrook recorded seven goals and four assists in 23 games. He had eight goals during the entire regular season.

Even before he signed his extension, he was rewarded for his play over the past decade, according to CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers:

A defenseman who is not afraid to join the rush, Seabrook is gifted with the puck on his stick for a blue-liner. He distributes the puck well and has shown great vision over the years. In his first 10 seasons, Seabrook has recorded at least five goals and 20 assists six times.

Seabrook, along with the likes of Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith, will have to carry the Blackhawks as they attempt to defend their title. With their experience and leadership capabilities, it would be difficult to count them out.
