Florida Gators: Who Are They, and Where Will They Go in 2008?
With one national title under their belt in the past two years, and with Tim Tebow—the youngest player ever to win a Heisman trophy—the Gators seem to have it in the bag for the upcoming season.
In the final fall standings for the 2007 season, Florida was ranked No. 16, with SEC-rivals Tennessee at No. 12 and Georgia at No. 3. Next season, the fans definitely expect more out of Urban Meyer and the whole starting lineup of the Florida Gators.
A 9-4 standing isn’t too good for the Florida Gators. They suffered some pretty big losses—both on and off the field.
In the offseason, Florida coach Urban Meyer suffered the loss of assistant coaches for the first time in his tenure. Co-recruiting coordinator and safeties coach Doc Holliday left to become an assistant at his alma mater, West Virginia. Running backs coach Stan Drayton took the same job with the Tennessee Volunteers, and co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Greg Mattison joined the new coaching staff of the Baltimore Ravens.
There will be some major shoes for Meyer to fill a new coaching staff.
With eleven seniors leaving the team—a far cry from the Georgia Bulldogs, who lose 22—the Gators are counting on their new and old recruits to carry them throughout the season with nothing but victory.
As the new season approaches, fingers are crossed for the Gators as they enter the Swamp with their fists held high!
